I've always liked the DeLorean ever since I saw Quantum Leap.

That looks like one of the Mark 1 1.4 litre Leaders with the drum instruments.

One of my favorite cars of all time was a 1985 BX GTI which I kept for more than 10 years and 140 thousand miles.

It's a BX 16 RS Leader, with the XU5 1.6 205 GTI lump as standard. Believed to be the only one left in existence!
Still has the awesome drum speedo but no 'blade runner' style rev counter

It's done a genuine 66k since new, backed up by full service history! Same old lady owner since 1988. Idea is to get it roadworthy and MOT'd within the next few weeks.
It's In a real bad way with regards to rot but it's worth saving! Welder will be working overtime this coming week

I had a BXGTi and then followed it a few years later with a very good BXGTi16v, which was a staggeringly good car (until I spun a shell while flat out on the M54.....)

Quirky and unmistakeably Citroen, but all the better for it.

I was working at a Citroen dealer when the BX was introduced and went to the dealer training in Slough. Couple of years later I had a BX19GTI(8v)as a company car, great fun but not very cool. The dealer principal had the GTI 16V, always managed to keep up with him.
The BX Diesel was "Camping and Caravaning" tow car of the year for several years.... how exciting.

The 1.7 turbo diesel estate was quick, I had one of those too.

My coupe is on a limited mileage classic policy, so I happen to run a 1994 306 Sedan 1.9td as a daily (another part of my 'fleet' and a spontaneous eBay moment!)

I've had many new cars, including a Clio 197 but I'd have an older car anyday of the week. You can't beat something with a bit of soul and character - or failing that a coupe's unexpected repair bills!

When I was at the Citroem dealer we built a freak, an Ami super chassis, 2CV6 body, 1600cc modified GSA lump with the turbo from a 1.7td BX, SPLIT 2CV rims that looked standard. It would destroy RS Turbo's in a straight line at the time. Warwickshire Police stopped it in Coventry and impounded it as unroadworthy, never saw it again.

I seem to recall that Car magazine built (or perhaps just tested - it was a long time ago) a 2CV with either a GSA lump or a turbo or both. I don't think it lasted long...

I already have a boring 18 year old bio-diesel powered French saloon as a daily!

I did use the coupe every day for a good while, but insurance this year has been a bit of a nightmare due to my fleet cover insurer deciding to remove cover for turbocharged petrol vehicles on this years renewal Big thumbs up to Neil Willies for saving the day!

In the end it was more economical in the long run to enjoy the coupe once in a while and rack up the moon miles on something a bit cheaper in wear and tear!

It lacks the nonsense, double barrel webber carb instead as such the performance is decreased slightly to 97bhp but reliability is improved tenfold!

That all depends on your definition of reliability. Sure if starting the car after it has rained, or been too warm counts then yes, some may say unreliable.

Don't know if you know but the 205 auto comes with that carb'd engine. Plenty of low mile examples around atm. Useful for spares.

I never had a problem with the Jettronic ignition on the 1.9 GTI engine.

In fact I never had a problem with the engine at all. Nor the hydraulics .

I don't know if the bx is the same but my Peugeot has its coil and amp on the passenger inner wing. I'm almost certain it's getting damp, but can I find the connector at fault?

One of my favourite sounds is a twin choke coming on song. Only bettered by 2 or 3 doing the same.. IMO a sadly missed soundtrack for a performance car.

Obviously rear end jacks ups, Carlos Fandango wheels, whip ariels, velour upholstery, shag pile trim and wooden centre consoles are best left in the 70s

Oh come on! Whip ariels are a sadly missed aspect of modern motoring. Bring back CB!

And you may mock Velour, but it was a massive leap forward from the tactile delights of Poly Vinyl Chloride. Probably in a tasteful combo of shades of brown, right through from a lively Beige to a solemn, serious Mahogany.

Steve Cropley had a turbo'ed 2CV when he was editor.
I remember seeing pictures of it parked on a sliproad on fire. Not sure what happened to it after that.
