I have just had my turbo fully re-built at Midland Turbo at a cost of £470.

I fitted it 2 weekends ago & all was fine, no more smoke smile

it had literally done less than 200 miles, when I had the shock of my life - billowing blue smoke again on cold start & hot idle! shocked & a smell of burning oil in the car -exactly the same smell as before it was re-built

I followed all the re-fitting guidlines, both from the guide on here & the guide they sent with the turbo - this included priming it with oil & cranking the engine until full oil pressure was achieved before starting.

Also had not driven it hard.

The coupe is mapped & de-catted & I told them this & included all the information in a covering note & they assured me that it would be re-furbed to a spec suitable for the modifications.

So obviously I need to phone them up no & explain what's happened.

I have no underlying problems at all with the engine (obviously to my knowledge)

Any ideas what could have happened? - could the de-cat have blown the new seals?.

I'm assuming, if it is the new turbo they will sort it out on Warranty - after just 200 miles use!

It's difficult to see how they wouldn't honour a warranty claim, especially if you have evidence that you told them about the decat

Let's hope this turns into a "Midland Turbo - great service" thread.....

Well the turbo has now gone back, so I await the call from them sometime today.

His statement on the phone didn't exactly fill me with confidence, he basically said 'we have to acertain why it has failed straight away, usually it's due to manufacturers re-fitting guides not being followed or underlying problems with the car.

There was also no specific details of the re-build at all on the invoice.

I sent a covering note when sending it off the first time & also told them over the phone that is was de-catted & re-mapped to 270 BHP

I'm bricking it basically - if they don't sort this on warranty I'm stuffed frown

When I took it off to send back, I noticed there was oil seeping out the housing & in the hot side & alot of play in the shaft - after just 200 miles use!

Only thing I can think of is they didn't re-build it to a spec to accomodate the de-cat/mods etc, but they assured me they had - but like I said it is not documemnted on the invoice.

De-cat is off now anyway & cat replaced, wretched things

Even if it was decatted it wouldnt effect it so soon.

Good luck with it.

Well it's not the new turbo! I sent it back to M/T & they have reported back no problems with it at all & that it's being flooded with oil due to usually engine breather system problems - so I am going to post a new thread in the technical problems section.

They also reported no damage has been caused to it & they have just needed to clean it out, which is a relief
