Hi all smile

I've had an aftermarket car alarm on my Coupe since shortly after buying it 6 years ago - the standard one didn't work properly, as usual, so had it taken out and paidfor a new one to be fitted laugh

The aftermarket alarm is working fine and links to the central locking, etc., but it's always annoyed me that it's not loud enough if and when it goes off.

It's pathetic and is one of those easily ignored alarms and probably wouldn't wake me up if in a deep sleep.

The bleep to set and unset it is louder rolleyes

The other day, I heard a car alarm going off that had an alarm that sounded like mine, but with the car's horn going off too.

Really annoying and made me look - which is what I want laugh

How hard or easy would it be to link my horn in to sound at the same time as the alarm siren, should it be activated?

Would I be better off getting an Auto Elec to do it for me or easy enough to diy?

Cheers smile

Oh God why! Louder alarm will still be ignored, but will truly piss off your neighbors.
Had to report someone in or road to the council after 4 nights with alarm going of every 3 hours. One more time and he gets a big fine. We have had some sleep since laugh

Good, I f**king hate them laugh

To be fair to the car, not the neighbours, my alarm only goes off when it's supposed to and seeing as it's the neighbours or their brats that usually set it off, I want it to be loud and annoying!

I'll swap you my Clifford 300 UK system for whatever yours is (provided it's Thatcham Cat. 1), as that's silly loud, but I didn't get a 'valet code' to reprogram some of its features (and loudness etc.) myself.

Thanks, but I don't think mine's a Thatcham Cat 1 approved and by the time I try and take one out and put yours in, I may as well have taken it to an auto elec laugh

I think it will be alot easier just to replace the siren.
I hooked up one of these or similar. It was very small especially in comparison to the scorpion siren and very easy to wire.
I did not keep it on as it was LOUD which is great except, the three chirps were just as deafening loud when I blipped the central locking, and the one when opening. I think the neighbours would got annoyed if I locked my car late at night often!!!!

(follow the link on the ebay ad for an example of the sound on youtube, siren heaven/hell)

The chirps are quite loud when setting and unsetting on my current alarm, it's just the siren that's quiet.

I get home from work at midnight, but I really don't care how annoyed my neighbours get to be honest.

When my neighbours start keeping their brats under control and having some consideration and respect for others, I'll consider doing the same grr

Phoenix Nights.
Ray Vaughn the dj, had installed an alarm to Max's car, then had a problem knocking it off The remote the size of a brick. The alarm was one of those multi alarms with a voiceover of 'get back you bastards I'll break you legs''
I want!

Yeah, agreed lol, I don't think the video clip needed to go on that long laugh

I used to have a 4 or 5 tone alarm on my Manta and it sounded quite cool rolleyes laugh

Maybe a train or truck horn will do the job? laugh

If you don't get sorted it's easy to drive your horn from the siren output of the alarm.

Get yourself a relay. Have the siren wires switch the relay. Then connect the switched terminals of the relay in parallel to your horn switch.

Just need to check if the horn functions with the ignition off, a bit more complicated if not.

Sounds easy in theory laugh

Yes, I think the horn does function with the ignition off smile

It is as simple it sounds. You don't even need to consider polarity on this case.

I had a thought about this before. I seen to recall that the alarm in my other car is capable of directly driving a horn. You needed to move a jumper pin inside the alarm box however to activate this function. You would then be able to directly connect to the horn or a separate horn.

I haven't had chance to look at this more yet szkom, but many thanks for your advice so far.

I'd also like to thank dlongstaff for sending me a siren to try - it's much appreciated and deserves a public thanks cool
