The Coop has passed it's MOT with flying colours smile
So I now want to do a few upgrades and I need advice on what I should do and who I should get to do it, and how much it will cost.
My LE is standard apart from Blueflame exhaust and remap by Flea to around 262bhp. I 'd like to get it to 300 bhp or close to it, so I can catch-up with a few more of you fast guys at Spa next year.

Any advice or quotes welcome.

Cheers

Marco

Hybrid turbo, air filter, intercooler and a remap should be fine. Have a look in the traders section for specialists

My advice is
For the love of god keep it standard.

I could've ran an entry level classics race season cheaper than what I have spent on mine down the years.

At spa next year I'm bringing my sprintey which is near enough standard so I'm sure you'll beat me there laugh

I know what you're saying JBT.

But I'm going to do it anyway, or buy one that's already been modded which might be cheaper in the long run.

If you want to mod your car, you'll mod your car, no matter what anyone says.

If the tuning bug has bitten you though, it only means trouble. laugh

Although if you're thinking of buying one "off the shelf" so to speak, that Porto Karl is selling at 299.6BHP would be my choice - beautifully kept, low mileage, not an LE - what's not to like?

I think 280-300hp with lowish boost is reasonable, it should be reliable and last a long time with not to much more added maintanence, the problem is people get hooked and the tweaking starts, my suggestion is plan out what you want from the start which usually revolves around the turbo and when its completed call it done! Then do your up most to resist any further tweaking.
One thing people over look when going for 300hp is the clutch, your get mixed answers but my new valeo didn't last 5 minutes.

with all the work going on id always include an uprated clutch just because in cutting that corner it will just bite you in the bum

If you want to be faster on a track consider renewing (if applicable) & upgrading the suspension and brakes first.

I agree proccy, it looks like a great buy but, It's been lowered and until I movehouse or resurface our lane it is a no goer. Oh and it's not an LE. laugh

OK I just had a new Valeo fitted so this could get expensive fitting another clutch.

To keep costs down II don't want to mess with the suspension ,just a little more straight line speed will do, and some track tyres. I fitted updated pads recently.

buying another coupe is looking like the cheaper way to go.

Thanks for all the advice guys and keep it coming it's a bit of reality check for me. smile

Yes. If I could do it all over again, I'd worry about the handling of the car before putting in the power mods. What is 300bhp if you can't handle it? Or stop in time?

Lots of options Marco based on how you want the car to drive. The 300 mark is a tipping point on many levels, so worth considering the way forward. The FC PowerLight package will see you very close, although a custom package may suit better.

Marko - why not go not go for a hybrid turbo, uprated SMIC, air filter and a re-map.

That should see you close to your mark!

First, do a compression test.

Make sure it's a healthy base before spending a penny.

Next time it would be favourable from My point of view if you left me more than three weeks notice to do what took me over a year on my own car laugh

Yes Spa was fantastic and I can't wait till next year.

Yes it's all a bit confusing wobble I might just spend the cash on something else

your car was V fast at Spa shocked So it's partly your fault that I'm thinking of this wink

Yes that sounds good to me Marco, and not too expensive. No doubt it wont be enough once I start down this road rolleyes

It's the Clutch that bothers me. Do I need to upgrade it? What about engine mounts?

engine mounts will be fine if there in good nick.
Its not that your definitely need an uprated clutch but i would be prepared for it to only last a short amount of time, its the amount of torque that will determine the clutch life, you can up-grade when it gives up.

OK. Upgrades on hold.

I've been missing Off Roading and my Landcruiser.
So I Just bought this.

Autotrader

Nuts I know, but always wanted one and couldn't afford it. The G Wagen is a fantastic machine and pretty rare. This was close by so fell in love when I saw it and drove it.
I am so happy and got it for £8750. I can't wait for the snow and looking down from on High again. laugh

I love the G wagons. I went in on at Millbrook a few years ago with a Mercedes test driver and we went down the 1:1 hill, he stopped, then we reversed up it!

Update:

Well after a Stressful first week of G-Wagen ownership, in which I found out that the slightly dangerous brake problem(among a few others) I was encountering was a fault with the ABS system, that the owner had forgotten to tell me about. I managed to secure a a £1k discount. Then on Sunday evening after finding out that the ABS warning bulb was actually missing and not blown and the warning light came on Immediately after replacing it.- I went ballistic with the seller for puting me and my family in danger and demanded my money back or I would take the matter further.

End result is I accepted a £2K refund. So hopefully that should take care of repairs. In meantime ABS can be switched off manually and brakes just work without ABS.

So from original selling price of £10k to £6750 I'm pretty happy as I expected to spend a bit on repairs anyway.
Unbelievable that somebody would hide a serious brake problem like that.

So upgrades may be back on. smile
