I have a K&N cone filter, and some people have mentioned I would benefit from a heat shield. Anyone care to agree or disagree - and who has one? Any pics??

Disagree,

Air temps under the bonnet will be the same with or without a heat shield.
If you want it to look a little better then sure, go ahead and fit one but it wont make the slightest bit of difference to power or torque.

agree, get a propper reflective heat shield made that sections off your filter, then make sure you have a cold air feed into the filter section, i did this on advice from the professor when i had a supercharged corrado it made a 6 bhp +7 torque difference, and at 70 mph it would pull like a hookers hand, so i no it deffo makes a difference, figures will vary from car-car though.cold air if you can get it is the key, also try and bends in pipe as minimal as poss

Cold air feeds make scrap all difference. This has been proven (on the old forum) by a couple of memebers who have air temp sensors placed next to the air filter, basically as soon as the car was moving the air temp dropped meaning the air filter was sucking in hot air, but nice cool air from outside.

trouble with supercars / f1 cars / drag boats is the engine is generally behind them and needs a cold air feed to get air into the engine, where as with the coupe, the engine is at the front and air can access the engine bay a lot more freely than an F1 car.

I'm just stating facts that this has been tested on coupe's and a cold air feed made no scrap of difference

and a part from all that you can not get a straight pipe to the air filter so air will not flow to it any way have tryed and did not work imo <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

did you make a big heat reflective box/shroud around your cone filter [big jr being one of the best]and then bring an air feed [duct and pipe] into it? [as that is easy peezy lol]as our coops engin bay generates quite a lot of heat worsend by the fact that when on the move it it circlates every where

The easy way to test it is to go ahead and fit it, report back with your findings though when its done.

I'll be fitting a shield soon - only to protect the filter (straight induction) from splashes etc. I doubt it will restrict the intake at all? anyone think it will?
