Okay, some of you may have seen that I managed to break my sunroof and that I've tried to replace it. what you may not know is that I gave up after first ordering the wrong sunroof then getting one that was broken.

Disheartened and more than a bit miffed, I 'fixed' the problem... by FIXING the sunroof... literally!

  • I removed the rubber from around the glass
  • I forced the glass to shut
  • I then filled the void with a tube of kitchen and bathroom sealent
  • And finished it off with polyeuethene windscreen adhesive

Removed the motor so that it doesn't try to open and even removed the inside screen that opens and closes to keep the sun out. I've probably massivly devalued the car but it works perfectly, it only has to sit there now and keep the rain out and let the sun in!

Benefits include:
1/ Doesn't whissle at any speed
2/ doesn't rattle at any speed
3/ doesn't grow mould on the roof
4/ is never going to let any water into the car to rust it

here's a closeup of the glue

Drastic measures indeed!

Eventually the original rubber seal will likely let in water and corrode the rim anyway so the best that can be said is that you're pre-empting this issue smile

Wow - Erm - wow.

Suppose you can reverse it at a later point if you wished still.

Least it's sorted for the winter, when your not going to need it anyways.

Good job?? smile

Well its your car mate, sometimes you've gotta do what you've gotta do! I don't suppose you've got a good spare sunroof deflector piece that pops up when the sunroof opens, maybe you removed it from your car, mine has some corrosion on it so I'm looking for one in good condition.
Let me know anyway,I'd be interested in it. Thanks!

Good job, really neat cool Sunroofs are nothing but a PITA on Coupe's, I've never owned one that didn't whistle (admittedly only at speeds that would have my licence on a long holiday to Swansea). I'm glad my Plus doesn't have one!

Coopless!

Would you believe this sunroof, before it broke, never whistled ;____; at any speed.

I do have the 'spare' sunroof which is sitting there for me to 'try' and fix it, but if anyone wants any parts from it, i suppose i could accomodate them, but I dont know if i can even get it apart without braking it further.

You spent all that time doing amazing calipers and then do that to your sunroof frown I hope it's just temporary....... sick

I may even have a complete working unit with motor! It's yours for free of you cover postage and packaging. Or I can break it and give you just the bits you need.

I am very tempted by that offer, the seat belt has knackered itself and needs replacing, so the sunroof's halfway out by that pont anyway.

I did glue the sunroof in in a fit of rage and depression after two faild attempts, but I was and still am very pleased with my work, it's really nice not having the mouldy seal round the glass any more. Can I have the weekend to think about it please? And I would make sure I paid you for it.

I'm 99% sure the last one was damaged in transit too so I wouldn't mind paying the extra for the postage.
