What are they for modded 20VT's and std 20VT's? I managed 451 miles to a tank last week, which is a personal record ...I could've made a another 15 miles I reckon (it was still a needle's width above the empty marker). And that included an interesting comparison with a Bently Continental GT on the M1. Well, interesting for me at least, not him... I reckon I could get 480 miles out of my Coop on maximum effort. What's the fccuk record?

Some people have had over 500 from their 20vt(6) I believe. Best I ever had was 430 - filled up and there was still 6 litres left in the tank. I went to Longleat the other day and got 6 mpg round the safari park

The last run I went on, in my standard 20vt/6 was carlisle to Birmingham and back, 400 mile round trip, took it real easy on the way there, and managed that to the first quater, and despite upping the pace to about 75/80mph and having a little play with an R32 on the way back, I still got back 400 mile, with right inbetween 1/4 and 1/2 a tank left. so I think 500 to a tank would be easily achievable for me.
Also JBT got 500+ mile to a tank running his 500+bhp engine in and on the way to SPA
So I think, weather you have a bog standard 20vt or a heavily modded (well set up) 20vt, both driven like a nun, off boost at low revs I doubt there will be a awful lot in it, and obviously the extra cog in the 20vt-6/LE is going to help alot.

Wow some pretty impressive figures.
Mine was mostly cruising on motorways doing between 50-60mph, although with the occasional forced blat snobbery (like some berk rep class in his merc c class up your rse).
I dare not slipstream a lorry in a project car I've had for 10 years though!
One day I'll go for a maximum cruise. But the likilhood of a berk in his merc tempting me is always the killer.

My wife did 450 miles from where we live to the bottom end of Cornwall on a tank when my car was standard, a 20vt. The light had not even come on. When I drive her I can see the needle going down

I did 500 miles on a full tank, Light came on at just shy of 490. I think I could've easily done 550 on the tank. Porkypaul,Barbz and crazylegs were witnesses.
Not bad for the most powerful coupe in the uk.

Set a new PB today, 488miles from my ancient P-reg 152k 20vt! Gtec2, FMIC, no silencers but standard cat. Usual stuff, no fancy head work etc. On Tesco 99 with the Mrs and the little'un in the back too! Refilled with 58litres from empty so still had another Gallon's worth in the tank. Will try and break 500 next time

nearly 38 miles to the gallon.... thats madness This was cruising at 60mph all day... The dirty diesel daily dog has decided to fill its cylinders with water, so begrudgingly had to perform a long-haul journey in the Coupe... Economy was the #1 priority!

Struth.i got my ass kicked by a bently in the two litre running 450bhp. And I was trying. Didn't get the feeling he was particularly stressing the GT.

The first lot of gt's are a bit pap, the newer ones have a lot more power thus making for stiff competition. Maybe jbt encountered a newer one?

Continental GT Speed. 616bhp. 8spd Gearbox. Bye bye Coupé. No reason a 340bhp coop wouldn't be comparable with an original Continental GT though. Mine was years back on this spec. It will do 200mph eventually though so you might start struggling at some point... But at what point is 'some point'?
Also we base this on being in the right gear at the right time. It's all to simple in an auto.

Specific cases may differ, but my general take:
We're talking about public roads.
We're talking about speeds suitable for public road.
We're talking about a car that even on the above stats goes from 0-70 in 6.1 seconds. You are not going to embarrass that car (whilst you're mashing your pedal in sweet third gear) unless the driver decides too late or only half-heartedly he is actually prepared to thrash his engine to prove a point to beat an old FIAT.
In any event, do posts encouraging racing on a public road have a place on this forum?
