If you update to iOS6 the maps are now based on TomTom which directs you with speech. Good luck

I don't think this one downloads data, although I never checked, as I have inclusive data usuage. It does download all the maps before you use it, so I think it relies on them, rather than downloading live data.

lol at navfree have tried that myself but not on out of town journeys, only local routes to try it out..and it didnt get me to most places and sometimes it didnt pick up a postcode or find a street i wanted manually. Google maps is acurate though, a mate once put his laptop on his dash and we followed that 2.5 hours to pick something up

If you update to iOS6 the maps are now based on TomTom which directs you with speech. Hi Gunzi. What's iOS6? Just got my iPhone and I'm not very clued up on it all. And from what I can see the TomTom cost £50. I'm guessing that once you've downloaded one of these apps if I find I'm not getting on with it I could just remove it? Thanks for all the advice so far. I think I'll give the Skobbler Sat Nav a go.

I've only used nav free once to try it out and it seemed ok and did recommend it to someone on here to try while we were in Coventry for the Agm. I don't think he was impressed after going past the same Ikea three times to find his way out Not impressed.... You could say that, although I should have been suspicious when it directed us to Debenhams carpark to get to the hotel!!! The two Sprinty's con convoy did get a few strange looks from the Saturday afternoon shoppers though! As for getting out of Coventry, NavFree wanted just kept turning me round at each roundabout, until I turned off the road completely and it seemed to sort itself out. Something that is also worth being aware of is that the Navigation software (esp Nav Free) eats the battery, so make sure you have a car charger. I still dont think you can beat an old fashioned map!

The same thing happened to me after letting my missus direct me with a map, fortunately the aisles in Debenhams are wide enough not to scratch the coupés paint job although it took a while getting old lady out of the Zender grill.

Not free but i use copilot which i have found to be very good. Me too, it's an excellent sat nav for a phone I've only used nav free once to try it out and it seemed ok and did recommend it to someone on here to try while we were in Coventry for the Agm. I don't think he was impressed after going past the same Ikea three times to find his way out Not impressed.... I didn't think you'd want the embarrassment of being named as the one who kept getting us lost around Coventry with nav free The looks on peoples faces seeing the two Sprinty's was brilliant though The best sat nav I used to get me out of Coventry was called MCMike

Thanks T. Brought it last weekend. A few days later it said something about an update, which I accepted, and the map did change. It's a iPhone 4s. Do please let me know how you get on mate. If we don't hear from you within the next 48 hours I'll send out a search party who will be using the stars for navigation. The trip was a success, except it sent us up a very winding narrow road to go between two major roads, rather than continue further along the major road another 200m and turn onto the next major one. Other than that it worked fine!

It keeps telling me to go the other way and turn around, because it thinks I'm on the opposite carriageway !
