I passed this earlier today, I had guessed incorrectly it was a Wolseley of some description. Thankfully the RAC car checker has enlightened me and I've found out it's an Austin A35, with a 948cc engine. Interesting choice of internal covering. Excuse the intruding finger, it's clear, I'm no photographer. So the question is this, can ali_hire work out where I was today?

I would say you were on Binnacle Way, with just the M27 between you and Port Solent. I only know that because my dad had a dark green Austin A35 (no leopardskin seat covers though)

This kind: or this kind?: The first are really ugly, as they were at the outset, the second had a little more merit, preferable in the fastback style. All IMHO, of course.

I think the ugliness makes them quite desirable. And presumably with the Triumph underpinnings you get the exciting swing axle rear suspension. Those transverse leaf spring rear suspensions were a little exciting, at times. Two of my Sixth Form friends had Herald 12/50 saloon or convertibles, so I speak from experience.

Not only saw, but won a ride up the Prescott Hill Climb in a 1926 Bugatti Brescia! No idea how many are left or it's value. Rarer than an F40?

this kind?: One of those - the later 2-litre ones Punto in white. Looked and sounded sooper-retro..... Re:Talbot - I was working at Ryton in 1985 when Peugeot came in but had some great 'learn how a car reacts' moments testing our Company Alpines and Solaras (or Minx and Rapiers as they pseudo'ed into)... Its amazing how so few Talbots are actually left now although having spent some time on the track there its probably down to a few union inspired assembly 'reactions' during production.... Stil love the Tagora though - if there are any left...

Re: Talbot testing moments. No Talbot Sunbeam Lotus then? The Avenger was an odd 'derivation' from the Rootes Group Imp variants, but the Sunbeam Lotus was quite a step beyond that power plant.

The Talbot works rally team were based at the Stoke Plant in Coventry Punto..... I recall several times hearing and watching them 'testing' the cars down the Humber Road. Coventry council got fed up being called by angry residents complaining that the surrounding factory roads were not a Rally stage

Lol, we had two Alpines years ago. We had a red one, which we always used to have to park on a hill to bump start it down in the morning, as well as many other problems and I told my then husband that we were never having another piece of crap like that and he replaced it with another one! The second one was a two tone grey one and was a bit better than the first, but still a heap

McLaren MP4 parked up in Camden earlier, in orange. V. nice and a good size too. Dunno how rare they are but they give off that 'rare' charisma.
