Would chipping my 16v na with 198k on the clock be too much for an older engine?

In my opinion no. It would only add a few bhp, but if done properly would actually make everything work better, as well as improving mpg. I would have it done properly though; just bunging an eBay chip into the ECU.... well, I wouldn't

As far as I'm aware only Flea offers a chip for the 16v n/a, and it'll add 13bhp which makes a massive difference to one of these models.

I think the safe thing to do first is to have a health check done on your engine, and if all is good then go for it

Worked well on mine (which was the car originally mapped by Flea) and it hasn't blown up yet.

Mind you, I drive like a grandpa (I *am* a grandpa) except around race tracks and rarely take it past 7500rpm these days...
