Bloody Hell! Blue sky and sunshine!

Is that a few of your old mates showing off after the Christmas party, Jim...?

Well I can see smoggyland town centre. You probably don't want to bother looking at that.

Up yours Photobucket.

Some great views! The view from my bedroom is of a 2-storey car park, built about 20 ft away from the back wall of our house. But I don't expect herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically across the plain.

I'm not at home at the moment, but I would imagine mine would involve some sort tracksuit-based tomfoolery.

If you have a spare £8m, you could be enjoying this view - Oh my Lords

Jimbo, is Dubai really small or does everyone stay in the same area? Every picture I see is of the man-made Island palm tree or the Hotel that looks like a sail! (Very nice it is too).

Coopless!

Dubai is an emirate made up of lots of towns Pinin but I guess the most photographed areas will be the Palm, the Burj Al Arab (the sail) and the Burj Khalifa (the tallest tower in the world).

I live in the Marina area click to enlarge
I took this when we flew over it earlier in the year.

Some brilliant pictures of a wintery UK there guys, I miss the clear frosty mornings in the UK.

Jimbo, many an afternoon I have spent down on the public beach in front of your apartment. JBR?

Dubai was originally two towns, (Deira on north side of creek) and Dubai on south side, back in 1920s the Sheikh of Dubai married the sheikh of Deira's daughter and arrived with quite a heavily armed wedding party..... Or so the story went when we lived there in the 1970s! (My dad helped build the Dry Docks). Jumeirah Beach was just a beach back then. In fact before we went we needed to get innoculated, including for Smallpox. How it's changed!

The creek is still authentic Dubai but as you go down the Sheikh Zayed road you find the new developments. The marina is awesome btw.

I took my family for a holiday there back in 2009, they liked it so much they made me take them again in 2010, 2011 and 2012!

it is an amazing place, we took my mother in law in 2011, before we went she actually asked "Will I need to take my own loo roll?", I think she had visions of a Baghdad environment. She loved it so much she tagged along again this year.

Dubai is part of the United Arab Emirates which comprise of Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Dubai and Ras Al Kaimah.

There are Coupes in Dubai click to enlarge apologies for quality, iphone 4S digital zoom ouch!

My favourite place, the Basta Art cafe when sun goes down and listening to the faithful being called to prayer, it's amazing.

What apartment block was that Charlie, it looks like its just down the road from my old home in the Crowne Plaza?

If you come back this year I'd avoid JBR, the building work has resumed with avengence on the tram system, they randomly close roads/junctions/bridges without any prior warning, the first thing you know about it is not being able to get home frown

It really is a fantastic place to live, I've absolutely no regrets about leaving the RAF and moving over here, other opportunities have opened up since getting here and I'm now here on a permanent contract with Boeing.

Prices are on the up again though, residential letting has gone up 20% in the past 4 months!!

That was 40th floor apartment of Chelsea towers.

Lived in Deira in 70s on Nasr square, opposite the eternal flame (used to go out quite a lot wink )
