Its not been a good week for DIY on the coop.

Just bought a brand new battery to cure my coop of her reluctance to start. Brilliant-she is sitting outside idling as we speak.

Trouble is I have hazards now blinking on for a period- then off for a short period.

When I bought the car it had no remote alarm...the car was from a genuine seller who'd had nothing but problems with the alarm and had in the end had it disconnected (so he told me)-and the fob was lost.

One of the things I meant to do when I bought the car was get a new fob and the alarm reprogrammed.....but never got around to it.

I'm off to try my red key in her- but quick diagnostic please guys.

Do I now need to go unplug the new battery and send the alarm off for new fob and re-programme?

Or is it somehting else I have missed??

Why oh why do i love this darn Fiat...everytime I try to help her she does not like it!

I'm going to have a coffee and come back to this post in a bit!

Sounds like the alarm is a stand alone unit and separate from the code system so the red key wont work. That's usually the case. You're lucky that it isn't a Cat 1 alarm that inhibits fuel and ignition.

You need to find the alarm module and disable/disconnect it.

If its a standard Meta unit it will be above the fuse box in the drivers foot well.

The alarm is separate from teh car and a UK add on. As lost says. Just disconnect and remove the alarm box and buy a simple remote locking box to get your central locking working again.

You can send the meta box of to a specialist who can get you a new set of fobs coded but this costs more than a decent alarm!

Firstly- thanks lost and bockers for the feedback.

This seems to be a good time to go for a suitable upgrade then!

Is there one particular upgrade that is considered better then the rest?

I'd be grateful for the forum's guidance on this- ideally something solid, reliable and won't cause this in the future.

Thanks in advance.

MM

Give Carl Baker a ring - his website's here.

http://www.tvruk.tv/www.tvruk.tv/index.html

Click the Coupe link on the home page.

Class operator and good banter.

Be quick though - he's off to France next year.

Thanks Roly!

I'm going to email him today and get arrangements in place.

Thanks once agian to the collective experience here on the forum! I fear there would be an awful lot less coop's on the road without it!

Apols for delayed update- have purchased a replacement alarm which is fitted now.

On fitting however I found the wires to the siren had been cut. I also found 3 unattached plugs that I could not source where they dhould be connected to.

They are one white and one red plastic make connectors- they have 4 male connectors in then amd are marked "2 Amp" or "Amp 2". High up in the recess past the steering column I found a matching female connector-again in white - but marked "5 Amp" Are these connection points for diagnostics?

After looking for where the broken wires should go-I;m simply going to get an auto electrician to fix them if there are any issues.

But the Coupe is firing up and working again - and for the first time in my ownership the red led is off when the engine is running.

Next is the MOT. :-)

Abacus alarms can do this also:

http://www.abacuscaralarms.co.uk/re-coding-meta-alarms/fiat-coupe.html

and iirc if you mention the forum you get a 10% discount.

I only have one key (sadly the blue one) and one fob, so I need to get another fob or two. Does anyone know if I can just get another key cut, or is it more complicated than that?
