Does anyone know if there is any problem fitting a new style number plate to a car thats registered with with the old stlye plate ???
Going from R859£££ to the new style, something like AB12CDE
I've seen on the Reg website that you can't fit a D reg car with a W reg plate because it makes the car look younger than it is.

You can only register plates prior to the cars age.

No you can't put new(er) prefix plates on to make your car for the exact reasons stated in your second paragraph. You can go the other way though, W reg car and put D reg plates on.
If all else fails read the instructions

Shame i found a plate that spelt my surname & initals for £550.

Why not buy it and hold it on retention until one day when you buy a car newer than your plate?

I often wonder if they see interest, and then bump, up goes the price  Have you tried looking on the DVLA website, they are pretty consistent on price and often better value. Second the thought of putting it on a retainer though

Did think about that.
Just had another look & the plate has gone up £849 now. Try clearing your cookies and have another look. If you keep the plate on retainer there are further costs to factor in.
