all the early type look crap no matter what fiberglass tat you decide to bolt on Each to their own, shame you cannot see the lines of the car. The later type are not cars to buy, cheaply built and not to the same standard as the first ones.

Coupedummy, i'm liking the look of the Ulysse. I'll check out a couple of reviews. We had a Ulysse a few years back, it was an ex Addison Lee 'Taxi'. Bought with 94000 on the clock, I ran it to 130k and apart from consumables it ran like a dream. However like all full size MPVs with both back seats in and up you have enough boot space to put a couple of carrier bags. You can fold the seats up and this allows more boot space. You can of course take 1 or both seats out but be careful not to damage your back!! My ex bus -

My dad had a multipla for a while, but since it was only a few years old I can't comment on long term reliability.
In terms of configurations, you really can't fault the car. I used it to move house and with all bar the driver seat removed I could fit more in than a standard transit. Really comfortable ride despite the optional 17" rims. The 1.9 JTD returned 50+mpg and with that amount of glazing, it gave unparalleled visibility.
All in all a fantastic car.

I saw one with a rear window sticker saying that t'other day. Had a chuckle to myself. Definitely a "marmite" motor.

The bug-eye Multipla is fantastic. If I didn't have any hang-ups around weirdy-types who only drive one brand of car, I'd have one tomorrow. That metallic lime-sage green with tinted windows would be my choice.

I really want to build myself one of those, but i'm not allowed. Love the original 50 year old Multipla, the original Multi Purpose Vehicle. And a 6 seater! I'm a huge fan of those too. Bit difficult to find a good one now though.

i have a jtd multipla elx. buy the top spec as you get... double electric sunroofs, electric heated and folding wing-mirrors, electric rear windows, air-con, alloys etc it drives very well has loads of space, boot space is ok for us ie. family of 5 i have fitted a dvd/tv in mine for the kids.
bad points: the outside door handle springs break as mine have which mean you have to push the handle back to get the doors to close. rear seat belts get trapped between the door and the seat and so break the plastic part of the seat. seats get dirty quicker than any car i've owned. dash-board warning lights come on for no reason then go off, once mine came on to tell me that i had no oil/low oil level when it was ok, lol
servicing some parts is a nightmare, i have just changed the thermostat and it was a pig of a job. if you get a diesel and you start getting rough running or crappy fuel consumption you will need to clean the egr valve and inlet manifold as they get completely clogged up, in some cases to the point that the egr valve wont move as in my case. suspension overhaul can be very expensive. check under the car for rust behind the sills and the very back of the boot floor and the floor under the rear lights. also the front chassis especially around the battery area.
mine is needing a clutch but i'm trying to wait untill it gets warmer to do it. oh and almost forgot chipping this car makes it fly (well for a multipla) but is well worth doing as mine is now suppose to be around 150hp

oh i had a ulysse on a 04 plate a few years back and it was a right pain. not actually a fiat though, french engineering at it's best lol. hazard warning lights came on for no reason and wouldn't switch off. i got warning messages all the time. rear electric opening doors sometimes wouldn't shut and sometimes wouldn't open. if you don't touch up the stone chips pretty quickly they start to show rust. middle center row seat-belts lock and won't open. drivers side seat bolster (bottom one) breaks well mine did, i was getting out and suddenly felt myself drop out the car lol. hand-brake lights come on even if the hand-brake is off. alarm packs up and my car stopped accepting the key to start. i've also heard stories of the ecu giving up. wouldn't ever own another.
**oh and just remembered this when the particulate filter goes i.e gets bunged up it will cost you a whopping £800 for a new one, & unless it's been done it will give up.**

Stay the hell away from a Ulysse, when they go wrong it will cost you the earth. An early multipla with the body kit and alloys looks awesome, they are quite basic and very easy to work on.

Well, after much discussion, we're buying the top spec, diesel, ugly bug Multipla. Mrs jimbob just doesn't feel comfortable driving any bigger motors. We'll be picking one up next month, after the current owner (a friend of ours) does their last holiday run with it. Just one last question; chipping this car makes it fly (well for a multipla) but is well worth doing as mine is now suppose to be around 150hp Is it just a 'plug and play' chip for them and where would i get one from? Slightly sceptical of the "adds 120bhp, gives 90mpg and saves you ever waxing the paintwork again" ones for sale on ebay.

i got a tuning box off ebay at first and it did increase the power quite abit and made a difference to mpg, it was better. i've since had a company come round and had it properly remapped as i felt this was probably the best thing to do.
i used the same company that we used to remap the mrs grande punto and only cost £200 which i think is a bargain really because it makes the car so much better to drive. (i'll try and find the number for you)
you have made the best choice as the Ulysse we had was a total knight mare of a car, i always seem to get crap french cars, so wont touch them anymore.
the multipla is not an easy car to work on if you need access under that silly bulge that houses the wipers and high-beam-lights.
despite the odd little thing with the multipla i still love the car, it never fails to start, (i've been all over the country in mine), it's reasonable on fuel considering it's a big car, theres more than enough room inside for me the mrs and our 3 kids and when your inside you can't see how ugly it is lol.
