I dont 'get' apps for websites. You have an app, it's called a browser. Just set FCCUK in your favourites or as your home page.

Reading this back it sounds aggressive, but it's not meant to so i'll just add a smiley in here laugh

I think it is a good idea, its crossed my mind before. Would be no different to say the facebook app? Im sure a few of us on here use that? I don't have access to a pc atm, and can only use my phone for this site, I would say I brows this site more than any other, so a simplified app would be great in my opinion smile

The problem with an 'app' is that it costs money to make. So the board would only make one if it could bring in more money than it cost.

The only way this would be possible would be through advertising, so you would have to accept random adverts throughout your 'app' experience. Also, given the user base of such an app (i would guess we are talking about MAYBE 100 downloads), the ROI for the board from the 0.3p per advert advertising would probably take the better part of 20-30 years laugh

"ahh but we have companies on the forum, who would surely pay more than that to advertise on the app" you say.

But why would they? You are using the app to navigate around the forum, and they can advertise there for free(ish) just be posting all the time, as they do now.

If you can write an app, and you're willing to give it to the the board for free, i'm sure they'd be happy to use it smile

No. I personally don't like the one-size-fits-all tapatalk app, but I *think* there's plans on the table to implement it. In a year or 3-4 probably, but hey,... if it ain't broken...

1. Search for www.fiatcoupeclub.org/forum in Safari
2. click the icon slap bang in the middle of the icon bar at the bottom of the screen. Looks like a square with an arrow pointing right coming out of it
3. Click 'add to home screen' and change to a more suitable name if you like (Mine's just 'FCCUK') and click add.

Deja vu. I brought all of this up a long time ago, especially the chat function, but it was shot down then just like it's shot down now.

A phone app would be better as the sizing of the screen on the phone is always a problem for me. And the chat room already available is useless which is why no one ever uses it.

Just a thought: the design of an application to view the fccuk site is probably on the same order of complexity as the various startrek programs, or the widget. Over a year's work in both cases... why on earth would you expect the fccuk, which exists for the benefit of the club members and provides the forum free of charge to all, members or not, to spend that sort of money to replicate the functionality of existing browsers?

The reason many applications are free or, say, a couple of quid each is not that they are cheap to make, but because they expect millions and millions of downloads. They make the development costs either from lots of 30p payments, or from lots of click through adverts.

Would you expect people to be prepared to buy an application to view a forum that might cost as much as a coupe costs, given that the majority of forum users haven't even seen fit to support it to the price of fifteen quid?

The inability of a browser on a phone to render the forum in a visible form is a limitation of the browser, not the forum.

I just looked at it in safi at you can't even write post or look at my stuff of messages , I use google app , If they can't make an app then I think they should re do the web site as it need a few more features at least , but for the advice alone that is the only reason I will be paying the 15 pounds to become a member not for the site , not saying its crap just needs tweaking I think.

I don't think people are aware of the difficulty of the task, the cost of the task and the tiny, tiny amount of people that would actually use it.

The site is fine on every apple device I have from 2nd gen Iphone to 4s as well as Ipad, nexus7 and 3 different android phones I have about.

I'm really sorry but I fail to see the problem with using the website on almost any smart phone made in the last 3 years. Any failing in the usability of this site on a smart phone is the product of a poor device rather than a poor site design.

This forum is run for the benefit of the members and is done so on a tiny budget but mostly on the back of goodwill of people prepared to give there time and skills for free. The hosting costs for this forum/site are not cheep and you should note that you will see no adverts here like other sites, the cost of membership supports this directly and if there is anything left in the pot afterwards its resourced sparingly as one can never predict next years costs/income.

I have said my bit but it annoys me when people think they do not get value for money unless they can have an app which already reflects what your browser should be doing for you.

As a paid member, I certainly won't mind paying another 69p or however much for an app because it's always been an annoyance to me.

Although with a app you could add all sorts of useful features like a coupe manual right on your phone (well streamed to it) and a button called "I am stuck on the side of the road" and you could put your symptoms in and it came back with suggestions yum Its only a dream, But out of interest I am going to ask a close mate as he writes apps for fun just too see how hard it would actually be.

For the reasons barnacle mentioned a specific FCCUK app will not be happening.

We must all do our part for the planet.
I unplugged a row of electric cars that nobody was using.
I even unplugged my own.

On iOS devices, just do this:

1. Using Safari go to Fccuk forum
2. Click the sharing link at bottom of iOS screen (looks like a box with an arrow coming out of it.)
3. A new screen will open and Select the icon the middle of the 9 icons called add to homescreen.
4. Another new screen will open (it wants you to name it), So call it FCCUK
5. Now click save button (top right of screen)
6. On your iOS homescreen is a new icon, (aka webapp) called FCCUK

To all intents and purposes you have a FCCUK app...
