Does one need a Fmic when fitting a gt28r or can be mapped to run suitably until future modifications?
I know the Fmic will be needed to get the most from it but unsure if it would be ok to map without it by using an updated smic?

Purely speculative.

Thanks guys

Yes you can, but you'll need to keep the boost down until you've fitted a FMIC.

What do you mean by an "updated" smic Reubs?

If you mean slightly larger capacity, they made no difference to the standard one.

Dial the boost down as Biggenz says.

I had a FMIC and stainless pipework you could've had for some loose change until recently frown

Well wonder how at gt28r performs on a smic mapped? Obvious not a full flow but compared to lower staged hybrids..

Shame dan too late eh

There were joes and pace smic weren't there.. Plus other than Fmic there's charge cooling..

Yes i think Joe's test found his smic was no different to the other one. Willing to stand corrected .

That's true, and the Pace fmic similarly offered nothing above the original (other than being nice and shiney!)

Leighton did back to back testing on Joes deeper SMIC and from memory there was no difference to the standard item.

Correct. A worthwhile investigation all the same.

Must say with no changes on my car other than the uprated SMIC I found my Coupe ran better last year at Spa (could keep it at 1.3 bar rather than feeling it bog down and having to switch to 1.1). Doesn't mean it would do that in all circumstances though. As it's all metal I would suspect it suffer from heat soak faster at lower speeds / shorter tracks (which is all of them I'd say).

i dont think that test was right because i drove joes plus when mine was up there for a service and there was a difference between mine and his which where the same spec apart from the side mount. i would of brought one but i already had a fmic sitting in the garage

There are multiple permuatations as to why this could have been. Leightons test was on the same vehicle, everything the same except swapping them over.

I would have linked the report on FCSS' traders section, that carried the detail.
