My leccy blue car had about 10 car park dings and a handful of other minor dents and scratches, but still looked somewhat presentable. However that itch to respray her and get her looking her best kept persisting over the last couple of years, but I held off as we often do when the wallet must dictate the heart.

Cue to two months ago when some buffoon decided to paint his wall right next to where my car was parked, resulting in the nearside getting peppered with thousands of pinhead-sized white droplets of paint (which though removable with effort, was deemed by me not to be really worth it due to amount of work and droplets involved).

This inched me closer to the edge... and then on Monday night my brother (bless his soul) came home with a cleft bonnet lip due to some unintended foreplay with a column in an underground car park.

This was the last straw.

Just sent her in today to get a full facelift, and since I'm going through the effort, I'm updating the colour to a shade used by Lamborghini called Monterey Blue (or Blu Nethus), which is a complex triple-coat jobbie.

It looks a little something like this: Google Images.

Still early days yet, but I am already excited, hence the post here laugh. Will take the occasional picture and post it up. The guy tells me it will take him 3-4 weeks to complete.

Also seriously considering reupholstering the interior in cream nappa leather and spraying the wheels (10-spoke aftermarket 17s) matte black while I'm at it...

Hmmmmmmmmm...... smile

Lovely colour, what wheels are you going to choose to complement the new colour scheme?

How about some nice 18" 6 spoke ADV's
Or some nice 10 spoke will look amazing with the slight dish on them.

Kenneth... it helped that his shop works with PPG, so he already had the formula on his system (reading forums, some paint shops in the US/UK can't even look up the paint code!).

Fingers crossed!

Though am thinking that matte blue ain't so bad!

There's an R35 GTR in the paint booth that needs to have its bits done before mine goes in. Can't wait for the finished product!!

Glad to see you've ditched the headlight washer jets. It really cleans up the bonnet lines thumb

They were never there. smile

The cars sent to Malaysia were all exactly UK spec (with the sole exception of a speedo and odo in kilometres instead of miles).

The previous owner had a minor shunt and his insurance paid out for a replacement bonnet, and the only one the dealership had at the time was a continental piece with the holes for the washers. The holes were filled in when the bonnet was painted, but over time they sunk and you could see a slight depression.

So I got my guy to fill them in again properly.

I'm all about keeping lines on the car clean. I removed the rear wiper, rear badge and am also debadging the bonnet. smile

All for the debadging of the bonnet. Not to hide its a Fiat etc. just looks better without the badge IMGHO and the rear too.
Would you get rid of the Pin badges on the rear quarters?

Pin badges are staying put. smile

Debadging the bonnet mostly because the Fiat badge is really old and faded, and I cannot be arsed to spruce it up.

Yes, it is.

So deadlock, i assume your interior and 20V badges will receive the same paint treatment too. Good luck in not breaking anything. laugh

However there's one problem. This colour is a multi-stage jobbie; here's what the base coat looks like:

So underneath it all, my car is actually now MURPLE!!!! shocked shocked ooo ooo

Here's the results:

click to enlarge click to enlarge click to enlarge click to enlarge

There's a large amount of colour shift as you walk around the car (like those Kandy colours). The hue changes from that blue to a very light metallic sky blue, and in the dark it takes on a very deep purple look and the colour shift is even more intense. It's a very interesting colour in the metal, and I'm getting a lot more attention in this than I did with the standard Leccy Blue (not exactly my intention, but oh well!).
