I was idly checking the number of Coupes still on the road and it's apparent that over the last 5 years we lose approximately 15% of Coupes every year.

The figures are:
Year Coupes - change from last year
2012 2348 -352
2011 2700 -542
2010 3242 -606
2009 3848 -745
2008 4593

So it's likely that 2013 will see UK numbers fall below the 2000 mark. Or 50% less than just 5 years ago.

It may be worth stockpiling spares as certain items like Bonnets, lights etc will soon become difficult to obtain, once the current "scrappers" have become razor blades.

What does the future hold for our beloved cars? frown

I was thinking on the same lines when I looked at the numbers from a link on here a few days ago.
If you've been looking at the same link I did I think the figures are based on tax registered cars.
I really wanted to purchase a donor car the other day but I know I don't really have the space. My brother has a donor car for an old Renault turbo he's had for some time now and it was well worth the buy for him.
Just found a guy who has 4 coupes to break so hopefully will get along ok with the guy its a steady local income for him.

Yep, at current prices a donor car would make loads of sense. The sum of the parts will be more than the price of the car.

Or as you say, stock pile spares. I note that the headlight units are quite cheap on ebay at the moment, but in future when they are like rocking horse dung, we could be in trouble.

I often curse living on a modern estate. There is never enough space !! I need a second garage and another drive please !

Yes in a few years time some of the spares will become expensive.

For example on my Alfa (less than 6o left on the road) any bit of interior plastic is £25, whereas Coupe bits are cheap as chips at the moment.

Plus side with decreasing numbers there must come a point when coupe prices start to increase. Personally think this might of started looking at recent prices.

I paid £1000 for a lovely 20vt 2 years ago, long mot, under 100k history etc, looking at current prices and sales on here, the same car would fetch £1500 with ease, I would definitely say they are on the up.

Brought my 3rd coupe for £1200 18 months ago in excellent condition. I wouldn't take any offer under £1800 now.

This is already the case - for example, all the following seem to be becoming rare, and thus our prices will rise accordingly:-

good condition centre consoles
non-cracked 20vt undertrays
Alloy rear calipers (yes, really)
Slam panels
Plus grilles
Clean washer bottles and expansion tanks
Some coolant hoses

...and many others I can't think of right now

Mike, me too. As a co-triple-obsessive (?) I have an unmentionable amount of rubbish in my garage. When it gets warm enough to unfreeze the garage door I must sort it out rolleyes

.......and anything that I have dropped, snapped lost or just plain put down in the garage 10 minutes ago and the car fairy has miraculously picked it up and hidden it, not for return until I have tracked down and bought an overpriced replacement for a 16v na !

there, who said coupes weren't fun crazy

Do you need to garage her? Mine has been at JBTs for a while and I really miss driving her. Your one sounds like a cracker. You'll miss it angel

I agree, anyone planning to keep their coupe(s) look term, would do well to collect odd bits and pieces which will inevitably become harder to find! cry

I've been a coupe owner for approx. 10 years, just been to Glasgow and back ,not a sniff of another coupe either way .definite decrease .but still no sign of rising prices, also the numbers for sale on the bay and piston heads seems to have fallen off quite dramatically is this good or bad?

as a previous coupe owner and hopefully a future coupe owner I have too seen the rise in cost of buying one and decline in numbers.. sold a scotts green with less than 70,000 miles for £1200 2 yrs ago which I would buy back now given the chance! have just missed out on a forum owners car because I stuck to a budget that would of bought a goodun 2 yrs ago.. a lot are being sold looking well past there best and needing stuff for what I consider good money.. it pains me to say I may have to give up on the marque as the vfm factor is going now with diminished numbers.. ok not everyones taste and like all cars have there own issues but as a comparison an rx8 231 looks an interesting alternative when you think 2003 on lots of spec
£1200 upwards.. like for like would still prefer a decent coupe but sad to say really the best ones I feel will be kept garaged now and theres lots of rx8s available to choose from.. will continue to look for a decent coupe but less hopefull this year![please prove me wrong somebody!]

A decent coupe should go for more than £1200. Im unsure your budget is realistic without ending up with a shed that needs the same again spending on it.
