Hers is sorted, but we need one for me.
Now I'm not that fussed about what type I get and I'm thinking about it practically. If it were up to me I probably wouldn't wear one. I don't wear jewellery aside from a watch.
We went out yesterday to have a look and I couldn't really find anything I liked and I'm more confused than when I started.
I know I don't want yellow gold; it doesn't suit me and won't go with the watch I wear every day.
The nice chap in the jewellers said that there's a whole host of metals I can choose from which are silver in colour - white gold, silver, palladium, platinum, etc.
He said that white gold is a coating so in the future (when the ring is a bit scratched and worn) it'll need to be re-plated whereas palladium and platinum are solid.
Given that I will be wearing this thing everyday for quite possibly the next 50 years, I think it should be as hard wearing as possible.
However, I'm also conscious of the fact that there's a good chance I'll lose it. I fiddle with jewellery (hence why I don't usually wear any) and I'll have to take it off a few times a week for sport.
With this in mind I'm wondering why I don't just go with something dirt cheap, like titanium or tungsten as they should be very hard wearing and I won't be too upset when if I lose it.
Any opinions?

Exactly the same as you, don't wear jewellery, just a watch.
Don't like yellow gold either...
I went with a mixture of a cheap metal & titanium.
The outer of the ring is darkish, hard titanium, the inner part is the softer, lighter cheaper metal.
So its nice, but not so nice that if I lost it (likely in the future) that id be too out of pocket.
The wife however, wouldn't see it that way i'm sure !!
Happy hunting....

White gold is an alloy, not a coating so the comments about needing replating when worn is incorrect. The exact mixture varies according to the number of carats.
9 carat white gold is 37.8% gold, 40% copper, 10.4% zinc, 11.8% nickel. 14 carat white gold is 58.5% gold, 0.5% silver, 27% copper, 7% zinc, 7% nickel 18 carat white gold is 75% gold, 4% silver, 4% copper, 17% palladium
Yellow gold used in jewellery is itself an alloy, not pure gold, even 22 carat gold contains small percentages of silver and copper
16VT and X1/9 1500
We must all do our part for the planet. I unplugged a row of electric cars that nobody was using. I even unplugged my own.

I used the jewellery collection in Hatton Gardens.... sounds pricey but was quite cheap TBH. My problem is that I like individual, one off things. Having around £50k of rings brought to us from the jeweller I finally got round to a choice of three. I liked the style of one, A diagonal cut in the ring with a diamond in it and the final ring had elements of white and gold mixed to create a two coloured finish on the top part of the ring, and like you I wanted it hard wearing. Long story short the gent from the company asked me to draw what I wanted the ring to look like from the top, colours, diamond position etc and he said leave it with him. 24 hours later he emailed me a photoshop of the ring I now wear, it's a one off that no one else has and I wear it daily in the motor trade. This excellent service level and individual ring cost less than £500 and bare the odd little scratch after 8 years it still looks good as new

On a tangential note, if you're buying a wedding ring for the future Mrs Hire (go on, treat her!) then you might find this interesting: Diamonds are bull-plop
Dear monos, a secret truth.

I went for a titanium ring. Partly as I have no desire to wear an expensive ring and also my engagement presant was a titanium cased watch and it seems a fitting match.
The misses had her ring made to her design/spec. Was great to have something unique and they designed the wedding ring to match perfectly.
