The Aux belt can be changed without moving the engine. Interesting , thanks. I'll take a better look at that next time I'm underneath as I still have to fix leaking oil return pipe at turbo.

Don't beat yourself up too much Pigman Took mine out again today (twice in a week!)and spotted the tail pipe is touching part of the rear apron. This might be what is causing the iratating noise? My local mechanic reckons faulty wheel bearings would be noisy whatever the speed? I'll be glad to get to the bottom of it....

If the tail pipe is very close to the rear bumper you will get a clunking noise from the back in traffic, as the exhaust will vibrate and tap the plastic. Surely a shot wheel bearing will make a grinding noise all the time.....

I agree Tim... So far 3 things have been suggested; 1. Shot wheel bearings. 2. Loud or Blowing exhaust/vibrating exhaust. 3. Excessive tyre noise. All seem possible, and I'll be glad once I have established which it is.

Jack the car and spin the wheel, if it's a bearing you'll hear it and if it's bad the wheel will have play in it if you try to rock it.

Good suggestion Theresa, though I am unsure I'll be able to adjust the exhaust without breaking the support brackets! Hopefully I'll get the chance to take a look tomorrow. Same also Big_Muzzie, I'll try jacking her up and checking whether the wheels make any noise when rotated. Must remind myself to chock the front wheels! Just need to get on with it!! Cheers

Took a look at my exhaust today, and it appears there is movement around the middle bracket(s). I need to get it up onto a hydralic ramp to take a better look.
