Hi guys, was wondering if somebody has real life experience, or at least observation, with profesionally done plastidipped car. There are tons of videos on the tube, so seems its very popular latterly...

I´m mostly concerned about how long the coating lasts and how much paint needed...

Not done car but we done alloys at work.
You see how easy it peels off the trim in that video link , its just as easy on the paint too.
Although we did peel it off within a few days it just came off in a big sheet. Not tried to scratch it to be fair.

But if you have good bodywork too start with , its something you could do at home , if it goes wrong peel it off and redo.

2ltrs should do a car and it can be thinned upto 50% so that would make 3ltrs.

You can buy 5ltr and the thinners for under £100 would be more then enough to do a car, while allowing for test and rework.
Need no prep to existing paint work, although any heavy scratches and dents etc will still be there and show.
You would need a clean garage or alike area to do this.
car needs to be clean and dry , and not on a cold damp day or humid day if doing it at home.

In my experience of this and vinyl wrapping , i would choose plastidip .
its cheaper product to buy , easier to apply on more complicated panels bumpers as leaves no cuts and touchup patches like wrapping can. You will get no air pockets around trim mouldings that i have seen done by pro wrappers, where they didnt remove trim and wrap as a individual piece.

We used normal paint spray gun, but those electric turbine HVLP guns can be had for £100 . These guns are also great for painting your house ,although i would not use them to paint a car with a true auto paint system.

Not sure how long it lasts , but you just redo a panel as needed.
I my self would not plastidip my own car or wrap it.
Wrapping is not that hard just takes time to look good from what i have done in past.
You may not get as good finish with plastidip , but easy to redo untill happy with results.

We have in past hour just removed more plastidip from some wheels, it did leave the clearcoat very dull. This may be due to coating with plastidip , also they where freshly painted and plastidipped the same day.
