Afternoon all

This year is the 5th anniversary of my grandad passing away and it tie's in with him serving on HSM Sussex whilst in the Navy.

Now as a gift to my dad I have been looking at this HMS Sussex Model and would love some advice on anything to do with model building.

I know I'm probably starting off at the higher end of the difficulty level (This ship is classed as 7 out of 10), I have plenty of patience with the building however the painting bothers me. All my airfix models as a kid looked like I had thrown water bombs of paint at them laugh

So any advice, tips or websites welcome thumb

Do you have access to an airbrush?

Cars are the worst to do, followed by bikes as the glass / lights are a pain as is getting the high shine finish then tanks - they share the pain of boats:

With boats it's all about getting the weathering effect right to make it look like an actual boat and not a lump of plastic.
I'd advise buying some cheaper models and practice techniques, especially seemless bonding and dry brush weathering. Good luck!

Try using acrylic paints, as if you don't like the way they come out, you can wash it off (before it dries).
You can do the same with enamels, but will need to use thinners to wash them off.
