I'm finally getting round to getting my new Zender bodykit sprayed up - It consists of just the 2 sideskirts & rear bumper lip, brand new, white primed.

I've had a quote of £200 all-in (this was from a proper pro body/repair shop, not 'bod in his garage' as such.

As I've never had this job done before, how does the above quote hit? - good / about right / steep / shocking etc etc.

if it is steep - can anyone recomend someone good, local to the Nuneaton/Coventry area that could do it cheaper?.

Thanks in advance

That doesn't sound expensive at all. I'd want to see some work they've done though.

Haven't seen any of their work personally - but they have been highly recomended by someone that uses them regular - he was the one that made the suggestion & gave me their number

I think this is a fair price provided the work is done properly. Don't forget the lacquer....

Good luck, and hope to see the results soon!

Sounds reasonable Jamie.

I've been quoted £140 for my bonnet painted. Any opinions on that price anyone?

200 is a good price as I've just coughed out 2k for a full respray with le/plus kit fitting.

omfg, i got quoted £500 for my bonnet because of a slight dent in the side and the rust on the lip.

£500 about right. My old coupe got hit fist size dent by headlight. and split in bumper. Quote came to £1300 with new bumper too.
Costings where roughly
Bumper £500
meterials/paint£300
Labour £500

Insurance company wouldn't let me repair it myself at work and person wouldn't pay the cash so i could . So took it to bodyshop of my choice.

hmmmm, he only said its that much coz he has to spray the whole bonnet coz there is no lines on the bonnet to blend it in and coz its red, it would show.

I have blend clearcoat on a bonnet before under the headlight , also soft edged along the line following up from headlight to windscreen. Both of these not by my choice and in years to come it may show.

What he is saying is right to point and i would always choose to do the whole bonnet. I dont know if hes using clear over base or HS(2pac) But if damage is away from doors/wing i would basecoat keeping the colour blend within the bonnet and clear whole bonet. Or just blend base into wing/door.

Could be worse could have yellow now thats a fun colour to match.

To add for £500 i would expect or do myself . strip front edge to metal above/around headlights and feather paint out, to remove any stonechips then prime and stopper any other chips higher up while leaving room to blend colour in bonnet.

Not from my experience they wouldn't , i was pulled over with no front end years ago in a gte they really didn't like that

No offense meant but ive seen peoples attempt at i will prep it, if you don't know how to do it then best leave it , plus many places have different ways of doing prep/filler work.
If you do want to do it though best speak to the people who will paint it for you .

i know how to prep and paint when it comes to small things, i preped most of my old cars in 1 way or another lol, but i would want to attempt a whole bonnet and colour match it to the rest of the car in case i do f**k it up. but im fine with prepping

Fair enough
Bonnet is easy , just big panel to rework if goes wrong.
I find its best to just treat every panel the same no matter on its shape or size , the more you think the more its likely to go wrong.
In this i mean every panel to me is a flat square even if its a flared arch say. I just adjust gun distance with any flares/contours in panel , i dont follow the shape of a arch if you get me.
I do edges first(arch lips etc) and work from bottom upwards never leaving wet line on panel edge. Apart from on repaint where i start on roof once thats done i then work bottom upwards back towards my wet line on pillars.

Bonnet on most cars i start on one side by wheel , work from middle back towards wing edge while going left to right, leaving wet line in middle and going to other side working from middle again .

Colour matching is fun at times, more so with water base which looks different wet in mix pot to when its dry. And not much you can do as you could tint it and looks good but then dry darker etc or end up doing 10s of spray out cards waste paint/time.
PPG would offer the best match i expect as its the fiat manufacture chosen paint system, although it will be a different base system by now. I could never get a spot on match with porto with sikkens/nexa and when i did full repaint with octoral it lost the purple/lilac a little and was more blue then old paint.

and cars suffer from paint fade, which is another reason to take it to a professinal, at least preping myself would save some labour cost eh. but then my roof is fading as well but i cant afford a full respray, even though a deep dark blue with purple sparkle would look good.

Yeah i expect you would save some money how much i dont know. As i would go back over it lightly any way.

Ah yes faded paint , i tend to mop adjacent panels and use mopped area to check for colour, but most times i just go standard shade as it will blend most of the time and be easier then trying to blend in a lighter/darker/bluer/greener etc shade .

Yours is red , so will be in HS 2pac topcoat what ever you want to call it. While this offers a far better shine and depth over a base and clear system it does tend to fade when not kept protected with wax/sealant.
Get them to mop your roof for that price too and keep it waxed.

There is a really big difference in the trade between insurance prices and prices paid if they don't think you'll pay so much.

If they are really busy expect prices to be high, otherwise it can be hard finding somewhere the magic combination of being cheap, having the time to do the work and doing good quality work.

I used to buy and sell a lot of cars, and even at 'mates rates' I'd end up paying more sometimes just because my friend who had a bodyshop was busy and couldn't turn down other work to do mine on the cheap.

£200 all in for lip and skirts is a bargain for a good job.
£140 for a coupe bonnet is a bargain for a good job.
If either is a bodge job they're worthless :-)

Any coupe bonnets with dents is a challenge so expect a wide variation in quotes depending on the confidence and ability of the panel monkey :-)

(Used to buy lots of cars at auctions, tart them up, then flog them on for profit.... often utilising mates bodyshop to 'add value')

I could spend £140 just on materials and paint for a bonnet

While im not a panel monkey just paint and prep with some filler work too. A coupe bonnet is no more of a challenge then any other dented panel to same degree.
Ive see a coupe bonnet bent into triangle shape and repaired to high standard.

Im sorry but the coupe is nothing special in the body repair trade , they are easy to strip easy to prep mask and paint.
The main reason for price difference will be quality of paint and products used. Then some place are just cheap overs high.

The coupe isn't anything special, but some panels are more awkward than others. The front nose of the coupe bonnet can be more tricky to get looking perfect due to the tight radius. Also, the double skin does not help.. unless you want a bonnet full of filler. Unfortunately the nose of the bonnet is where many coupes collect dents.

Cheers for all that - I'm currently waiting on another quote from another shop (well a guy who works there, so I imagine it would be a cash in hand 'foreigner' as such, but I'd rather the quality not be compromised for the sake of £50 or something, I'll probably go for this quote.

£140 for a bonnet! - where is that Joe?, is that based on removing the bonnet & transporting/picking up yourself?

it's just 'who you know' at the end of the day in this field, I mean about 6 years ago someone who had a close uncle who ran a bodyshop, got their car (wasn't a coupe) fully re-sprayed for £700! smile and it was a stunning job aswel - I enquired & got told it would be £1400+ for me lol
