Does anyone know of anybody who will insure a 21 year old on a 20VT LE for the day to get it home? Because its looking like no one in the known universe will And I refuse to risk it as I really dont fancy losing my licence over it Cheers!

Have you tried them. They have always been able to provide 1 day insurance for me when nobody else would. Also, try Neil Willies they might be able to help you...

Sorry, but our policies are annual policies aimed at drivers aged over 25.

I will try the RAC one and in regard to Neil Willes i asked you for a quote to insure it permanently and got this response:
"Thank you for completing our online quotation form for a quotation on a Fiat Coupe you are looking at purchasing. Upon referral to the insurers I must advise that taking into account various factors including your age, how long you have held your licence for, your annual expected mileage and that the vehicle is a Turbo model, which is a new purchase to you we are unfortunately unable to provide you with a quotation. Our policies are future classic car policies aimed mainly at drivers aged over 25 who are ideally doing no more than 5000 miles per year. Sorry."
I can see why you wouldn't want to insure me, in the last year I did do 40,000 miles with only one incident (and that only involved me) not bad for a first year on the road but I understand to keep your costs low for other more experienced drivers you need to weed out potential risks so I don't take it personally.
Just tried your link and they dont want to know due to my age.

The problem with getting a relative or friend with "drive other cars" cover to pick it up, is that many policies require the "other car" to be insured in its own right.
My non-coupe policy is written that way.
16VT and X1/9 1500
We must all do our part for the planet. I unplugged a row of electric cars that nobody was using.

Hmmm the "taking out a policy then cancelling" seems a little rude. the only reason i am not insuring it for the year when i go to collect it is due to me not being paid for 3 weeks so i was going to temp insure it to get it home then look at her in the carpark until i can get behind the wheel.
I may just have to bite the bullet and see if I can borrow le money off someone until i get paid to get it home. but theres something wrong with borrowing money to insure a performance car.
Stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Rac check will cover temporary driving mate. For long term insurance try Brentacre.I've been with them a couple of years and they're extremely competitive.

http://www.computerquoteinsurance.com/This company give you an annual quote that you pay on a monthly basis. They allow you to stop the insurance and payments anytime and then restart it anytime. I am considering this as I only use my coupe for six months of the year. And it will save me over £100 if I paid an annual insurance fully. Try also - http://www.ecarinsurance.co.uk/. They do Monthly also and I have used them in past on monthly basis. No suprise that insurance companies dont want to insure a 21 year old to drive a 20VT.

Hi Lego, I like the idea of the computerquoteinsurance but the quote came back at £18,000. I think it is most probably the age issue, but insurance companies really do baffle me. I was paying 6.5k on a VIS then 8 months later I insured a 20vt for 5k and the best quote I have had for a LE is 3.2k the logic they refer too really baffles me.
Thankyou everyone for your suggestions! I think I will just have to wait it out until i get paid
Cheers Alex

Seriously, that's £11.5k of insurance for 2 years. Have you won the lottery at 21?! n None from the panel of insureres I use for temporary cover would cover anyone of 21 on a 20vt I'm afraid either. Surely you can take out an annual insurance policy and pay monthly?

Yeah thats what I am going to do, its just I won the car in a auction that I placed a bid on when drunk being egged on by a crowd of other drunks I call my friends. I really wasn't expecting to win it. but I did. its a stupid story but to sum it up I accidentally bought a LE for less than it was worth on the eve of my 21 birthday. I have found someone now who will drive it back for me until I next get paid when I can insure her And I can understand that insurers hear the words 2L 20vt and 20-21 and just slam the phone down. Its the price I pay for driving a truly spectacular car that always brings a smile to my face. Alex

3.2k pa for insurance.....I am concerned mine is £185. Fair play to you owning a coupe at 21, the cost of your premium however is mind boggling.

My insurance is I think pretty reasonable, I'm 21 and pay just under £1000 for my 20vt, with sky insurance

I've had Coupes since I was 18 (I'm now 25) and I've never paid this much. I'm guessing location has a big influence over this?

And just the general cost of insurance. lets face it, insurance companies don't want young people on the road because there viewed as a liability. where as i am sure 90% of young people on the road are fine but all it takes is for that 1 to cause a accident and injury lawyers for you get involved and it costs them thousands. anyways I got her home and insured and she is in daily use now. am now saving for a re-spray
