Well, the year of the big power Coupes continues. This time it's a 16VT record that's been broken - and I didn't even mean to! These latest dyno results came from a new Kinugawa Turbo setup that I developed and have been putting through its paces. The ultimate aim being to release the new setup as a bolt-on kit for Coupes if it performed well. The aim wasn't to break records, just to gather data. As you'll see from the results, it performs very well! I'll post up more about the Kinugawa turbo build and its performance in the Tuning forum soon. Kinugawa TD06 25G SL2 If you're dyno testing an engine for anything other than pub bragging rights, then thoroughness and repeatability are absolutely paramount. I last dyno'd my Coupe running Turbonetics T3/T04e 50-trim. At the time I ran it on a Dyno Star first, followed by a Dyno Dynamics just out of interest to see what the difference in results was (I use both of these dynos regularly for mapping customers cars). So when it came to testing the new setup I did exactly the same thing; first I remapped the ECU on the DD rollers to suit the new turbo, then I did power runs on the DS and DD. As many parameters as possible were controlled in order to make the results; boost, tyres, tyre pressures, Shootout settings on DD and ramp rates on the DS were all kept identical to the previous settings used earlier in the year. Even the atmospheric pressures happened to be the same! I have to admit we were shocked by the results from the DS rollers! So much so that we did two more power runs and trawled through all dyno settings to make sure there wasn't anything amiss. There wasn't, so that's what it made on that dyno! Dyno Dynmics:413 bhp ATF / 352 bhp ATW, 395 lbsft @1.55 bar (previously 396 bhp ATF / 337 bhp ATW, 379 lbsft) Previous and latest compared Dyno Star:451 bhp ATF / 410 bhp ATW, 440 lbsft ATF / 414 lbsft ATW @ 1.55 (previously 399 bhp ATF, 362 bhp ATW / 440 lbsft ATF, 390 lbsft ATW) ATF: ATW: So there we have it; no matter which results you want to compare with, DD or DS, flywheel-power or wheel-power, the results are irrefutable: Unless there's another 16VT out there that we don't know about, this is the most powerful 16VT in the UK right now. The results also prove that Voodoo Tuning knows how to make mean-ass 16VTs If this is the most powerful how long will it be before another Coupe comes along to break this record? Who knows. I don't care either - as long as I have something to do with creating it!

Wow!! Can't make out the boost trace on the DS graph... Does it show max boost now 400 revs earlier (@4800) than before?? (5200)... Which turbine housing are you using ,8 or 10 cm? Billet comp wheel?? Nick Ps... Well done dude

Thought so.... Spool seems really good for such a big comp wheel!! Suppose it's spooling quicker due to 8cm turbine house being .57 where as your turbonetics was .63? What size is the kinugawa turbine wheel compared to your old set up?? There is a 'billet' comp wheel available also at extra cost from kinugawa... Do you think this would give faster still spool and a smigeon more top end? Intrigued!!! Nick

Nice results Never heard of a Kinugawa turbo before though! I'd still be curious to a dyno day with our 2 cars to see the differences in torque / power.

I've contacted with Kinugawa about them and I'm waiting to hear what they say ATM. If these billet wheels are sound worthwhile it would be nice to offer the billet version of this turbo as part of the upgrade kit I'm working on. I'm going to put up a thread about the build in the Tuning section soon. I'll include some comparison pics of the comps and turbines They'r different sizes and also different in shape too.

Nice results Never heard of a Kinugawa turbo before though! I'd still be curious to a dyno day with our 2 cars to see the differences in torque / power. That's what the DD printout is for! Kinugawa. Yeah they're fairly new and unheard of, but they're not the usual Chinese Garrett knock-offs. I thought I'd take a chance on them with my own car and find out if they're any good. Next the plan is to do the same with my 20VT; select and test a Kinugawa turbo. If it works well, develop an upgrade kit. It's nice to give people a different option from the usual tried and tested Garrett range.
