Well, I went to see this last night with, I must say, some trepidation - I've read a couple of not very good reviews of it. I felt that the last film, annoying camera flares aside, did a great job of rebooting the franchise and I was a bit worried that this one was going to make a mess of it.
Turns out I had no need to worry, ST:ID is a really enjoyable action film. It's not completely brain-out viewing and while sections of the plot could charitably be called 'unlikely' it didn't suffer from the major plot-holes that have spoiled several recent films for me.
Benedict Cumberbatch was a great villain, with a proper motivation for his actions, the special effects were excellent, Simon Pegg did a much better job with Scotty's accent, most of the camera flares were gone, Kirk's personal story arc was nicely done and felt natural, the plot had suspense, a good sprinkling of funny moments and enough nods to the mythos to keep Trekkies happy while keeping the in-jokes peripheral enough that my wife, who's vaguely aware that Star Trek happens in space, didn't feel she was missing out on anything.
Really the only bit that felt tacked on was Kirk-Spock bromance, but that slight niggle aside this felt like everything a Star Trek film should be (and which about 4 of them have actually managed to be).
Definitely one to go and see on the big screen, if you haven't been yet. As a bonus you'll also get to see the trailer for Ender's Game, which I've got high hopes for.
