Ok so not strictly a thread for Coupé chat I know but I know that several of you also have the big Alfa's...

Unfortunately my big Alfa has died, oddly it is the motor that has killed it, not the gearbox, the electrics or rust!

Before I give the scrap man his shot at the car I was going to relieve it of its trinkets and as I know Several of you here run 166's I wondered if you guys wanted any of the goodies.

It's a top of the rage car so has Sat Nav, DSP Sound System and Full electric (Memory) seats. There are brand new hand brake cables and a stainless exhaust that I bought second hand and just fitted last week! Those of you with the 166's know them well so if you guys want anything off the car before it goes you have first dibs

Bob

Far too much money sunk into the old girl in the past, a road too often travelled and not one I wish to take again frown

It's time to let the old girl go and for me to sink my money into something (BORING) that makes sense for the 50 miles a day commute! Me and the "Barge" have done over 70,000 miles together. At roughly 320 miles to a tank I shall allow you to calculate my fuel spend. Recently each tank full has been relieving me of over £80 shocked

Marco informs me that it will be Crank Bearings and that is what it sounds like to me. There were no warnings they were going, just one dead Alfa on the way to work cry

It's just not possible to have two "Sunny Days" cars so the Alfa has to bite the bullet frown

I've a real hankering for a 3ltr 916 GTV in either yellow or red....I keep resisting at the moment but I might even sell the Porsche for the right car.

Just bought a V6. The good ones are holding their money. Mine has had GTA clutch and flywheel, Q2 diff, polybushed, ss exhaust and a bmc air intake system. I love it, better to drive than my 20vt better handling and a nicer place to sit in. The v6 sounds lovely only downside is fuel consumption but its a weekend car.

I hate to admit it the Alfa got under my skin more than my Fiat Coupé ever has blush

Ok so it was not as quick, but for a barge it was not too far off! Clearly I never got the two cars side by side on the Autobahn but just like the Coupé the Alfa speedo would laugh at the 155 mph and just sail past. It actually felt far more stable at high speed too. I can't think of many days when I didn't look forward to driving the big Alfa, and I never felt glad to be getting out of it after a long drive. I do however often feel glad to be getting out of the Coupé after such runs shocked

It wasn’t all roses though. There were times when the Alfa could be so frustrating. Some days things would just stop working or decide to do something that I hadn’t asked it to. In the lakes last year the heating system decided that it was too cold inside the car and went to full heat, full fan. I had to stop, turn off and re-start then all was back to normal. It never happened again. One time the gearbox did a similar thing. We were stuck in traffic and when it cleared the Alfa wouldn’t change up, either in Auto or manual. After another re-set and off we went, never to happen again. It was often like this with the Alfa but I still loved it.

To be fair the Coupé and the Alfa are completely different cars. One demands constant attention whilst the other just got on with the job of getting you where you wanted to be. This last leek I have been using the Coupé to commute and I am already tired of it. Hats off to Nigel for coping with his for all these years, how do you do it mate. After a 12 hour shift I just want a car to sit at a steady speed with no fuss and get me home. The Coupé is like a jack Russell just begging to be played with. There is a time and a place I suppose
