I want to upgrade the suspension on my Coupe and am interested in views on options for dampers. The main use for the car is now hillclimbing, although it does still get some road use in between events so I don't want to go for a rock hard ride if possible, but would like to get up the hill a little quicker and not be so close to last in class!

The two options I am looking at are the B6 and the Koni insert, probably the externally adjustable ones - the Koni seems to be cheaper which obviously is a plus point, but I don't mind paying a little more if it is worth while. At present I am running absolutely standard suspension (which is the original) and brakes so anything will make a difference. I will probably get some Eibach springs too (unless anyone has a better recommendation) but need to leave that until later in the year as my current insurance does not allow for any modification - shocks I can get away with but lowering it is probably not a good idea!

Suggestions please, in particular for what to go for on the rear if I use Koni at the front.

Why don't you go for Osrav adjustable shock absorbers that would be my preference if I was looking to buy a new set. My second bet would be Koni for that simple reason that they're adjustable.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm open to ideas really, is there a particular reason you suggest the Osrav? Adjustable sounds good but many people seem to recommend the B6 which is why I was thinking of those but Joe from FCSS recommended the Konis making me consider them as an alternative.

Are you meaning that the life of the Koni is less than some others?

Thanks, still not sure why them being easy to do is a downside though!

On my last 20vt I fitted Konis and retained the standard springs. I was really happy with that as a fast road setup, I set the dampers to full soft and then one turn back the other way to hard and it worked really well. My current one has B6 and Eibach pro kit springs. If cost wasn't an issue I would replace the B6s with Konis as it gets quite choppy and out of sync on bumpy/undulating roads, and B6s I believe are not designed for lowered springs.

If you wanted to go a step further, the Whiteline ARB (I've always used the 22mm) makes a massive difference to the turn in. And camber bolts set to -1.2 helps me further.

Just my opinion anyway! smile

The B6's are designed for lowered springs too.
