Yes, I have one fitted but it's part of the control strategies within the ECU I have. Generally aftermarket ones you will need to fit a clutch switch to let the control unit you have activated it then you can floor the pedal and it will hold the revs at a certain point for you. As for being any good, well, it's tricky to setup (for my ECU anyway) and you'll be looking at swapping gearboxes on a regular basis if you use it all the time

You need an aftermarket ECU to do it properly. The strategy on the Syvecs is the best I've seen so far. It's automatic, basically when vehicle speed is less than X and TPS is greater than Y it enters launch mode, this holds the rpm and boost to a 12 way adjustable switch, as you launch the clamp is programmable as a function of undriven speed or timer. Once the launch phase is over you can ramp in the boost / nitrous as a function of exit time and gear position. The traction control also helps. Basically you turn up go 100% throttle a let go of the clutch, the rest is all done by the ECU! The built in data logger allows you to analyse a drag race in great detail.

Thanks to both of you for your information. It sounds like it is a must on the fiat as mine wheel spins too much. Its just finding what places do it. Thanks again.

I would disagree, it's only a must if your at Santa pod trying to set a time and have a stock of gearboxes. For fast road use the best solution is to find a decent boost controller that is programmable as a function of boost, gear, undriven speed and rpm, this will indirectly aid you with throttle modulation and as such reduce the chance wheel spin.

I used to use race logic . Widely renowned to be the best aftermarket traction control system that can be used in conjunction with any standard ecu or system: Can pick them up for around £350.
The only reason I no longer use it is my Omex has the feature but the race logic was equally as good at a fraction of the price. You can also program exactly how much slip, revs etc you want and how hard it cuts.

Spins too much... as in the traction is a problem or your foot control is the problem? I find it much more rewarding to have none of those things and know YOU are driving the car.

I didn't think OMEX had the firmware in place to support traction control? It was still on my wish list when I sold my 710 and I believe it's still not available 3 years later!
Not sure how the Race Logic traction control really interacts with the Bosch ECU. I know how these devices work in principle; essentially they are interrupting with a fuel cut (a bit of a harsh way of torque reduction); however this device has no idea of the process scheduling from the ECU so I find it had to believe it can be as effective as the website makes out. It's kind of like fitting a DASTEK piggyback it works well but has its limitations.
I think the best method of torque reduction is a decent boost controller as I mentioned earlier and driver throttle modulation. They fancy toys can come later!

Race logic reduces the pulses m/s to each injector depending on the settings. You can cut the spark, but even they advise not to do that. I know what you mean,in theory its dangerous and shouldn't work but I've had it on 2 coupes and it works well. Race logic guarantee that if there software causes an engine failure that they will replace the engine. Very helpful company and they will set it up free if you struggle. I was around a second quicker without it turned on though. Omex 710 does have launch control but needs a seperate sensor for the rear wheels as isnt compatible. That said I haven't set mine up so don't quote me on that. I keep having anti lag interfear with the starts for some reason though but doesn't do it everytime. Regardless though a competent driver will always be quicker than launch control as long as you stay calm off the line. Last time I went up the pod a 3k launch spun the wheels all the way until 3rd gear whereas 40 mins later a 5k launch bogged off the line.

If you've still got the car in August then drop me a pm a few weeks before and we will go head to head. If you haven't then you can have a run out in mine. Will be a good day. I've got a spare set of crinkly slicks if you've sold yours.
Yes Barbz was referring to me but I don't bother posting times or Bhp on forum anymore to avoid all the bullshit that goes with it. My best time saw a slower terminal than yours and my worst time saw my best terminal speed but I had clutch issues all day as soon as I selected 4th. Much preffer a group of mates with oily hands getting together for a laugh around the track or up the strip.

Hi John, I think you may have miss understood what I meant. I do not mean it's "dangerous and shouldn't work" I said it's a "bit harsh" and has "limitations". That said I have not looked or used this system so cannot comment in great detail, I'm sure it works very well, I could be completely wrong here however.... There are many ways to clamp torque; and reducing pulse time to the injectors is classed as an "enleanment". Another method is "cutting", which means that certain cylinders get the correct amount of fuel but within the firing sequence of the engine. For example a 10% fuel cut means that 10 out of 100 fires will not get any fuel at all. To achieve this correctly the RT unit would need to know the exact scheduling of the ECU. For example the RT unit may interrupt a cylinder that has been deliberatly scheduled to supply an additional amount of fuel due to heavy knock detection, this is where I fail to see how an external unit is aware of such a situation and my reason for saying it's "limited". I suspect the reason why they do not recommend spark "cut" for turbocharged engines is because there is a very high risk of blowing open the inlet plenum. Although hearsay if true it would just reinforce what i have said about about knowing scheduling as if the ECU was to command a spark cut it should also command a fuel cut/enleanment on the same cylinder ensuring less or no risk of back fire. With regards to the OMEX, there are enough inputs to feed in driven and undriven wheel speed signals. The problem that I had was there's no strategy in place to calculate wheelspin and instigate torque reduction. I did use the launch control feature but again there was no programmable function of undriven speed vs rpm clamp meaning it was only really active to a fixed rpm as long as i held down the launch button. I do hope they upgrade their firmware soon...

Sorry Jay,just read your initial post and was misread by myself. I think reducing the injector lag times allows utilising the spark cut.however there software makes it easy for the amateur to hard cut the spark or fuel if needed which isnt ideal. As this system appeals more to have a go Hero's its advised not to touch the spark feature on tuned vehicles with additional fuelling upgrades. I have heard of the drift lads blowing alloy manifolds clean off using a hard cut spark feature to unsettle the car by using the engine to decelerate the rear heavily on part throttle. From what I can see so far its similar to the early AEM software using undriven rpm against one rear wheel speed. In other words there's no input or intelligence just guess work. Wasn't there a recent update addressing issues with various parameters with the LC being one or am I getting confused with the S80 Dta? Saying that nearly every drag focused car I've seen uses an external LC unit more accessible and easily adjustable by the driver.

Omex 710 does have launch control but needs a seperate sensor for the rear wheels as isnt compatible. Does the Omex need a hall signal to be able to work? If so, you can get a VR to Hall converter for about £30, it's what I use on the DTA to measure rear wheel speed without the need for installing an additional sensor and uses the ABS wiring.

rpm vs undriven would allow back calculation of gear ratios as a simple n/v to detect gear position for those without a direct gear position sensor. Not sure I see how that can help with TC although it's fine for LC. I feel gear ratio calculation should come from driven wheelspeed and I would much prefer undriven vs driven at the very least! The early AEM and current OMEX code is all from GEMS, the issue is that GEMS have not ported over their latest code to OMEX so the 710 is still running code from 2005! This is one of the reasons why i gave up tuning my OMEX as I do like to play with new toys I think those "drag focused" cars are missing a trick by not using a LC/TC system that's integral to the engine controller (assuming their ECU is capable and allowed by the rules).

If VR then you can patch into the OEM ABS wheel speed. If hall then you can fit an addtional sensor they are only £45, in any case I can't see why either system cannot run VR/HALL. I guess it depends on how many frequency inputs their hardware allows.
