Hi I've done a search on here and on the web and can only find info stating 1.2 bar reducing to .9
Is this the actual turbo range or is it the standard map?
Just curious as I have fitted a gizzmo and with high gain I saw my boost go upto 1.9 I backed off so no idea if it was a stable 1.9 but it was certainly something I wasn't expecting to see! It was noticeably more aggressive as well.
I've pretty much got the jist of the gizzmo and have turned it down to a bit more normalish setting! As I don't want to damage the engine!
On previous inspections of the turbo it still appears to have original fiat clips so I'm assuming its standard. When I had a mechanical boost gauge I got a reasonably steady 1.5bar tailing off slightly i think, with standard stuff and just a chip, I'm assuming its a GTECH 1 but don't actually know.
I'm just a bit curious if this is standard and quite normal or if I have a hybrid or something.
Any info or help is appreciated
Cheers thumb

standard turbo and engine with a gtec 1 chip you don't want to be going over 1.2bar of boost as your be running out of fuel and cause problems .

What duty cycle are you using on your Gizzmo?

Gain should be set at a maximum of 10, this controls how quick the turbo "spins up". It can come in pretty violently, I tend to set mine to 8.

Duty will control your maximum boost, are you sure you have the Gizzmo displaying BAR ? as 1.9 is significantly high, especially on the standard turbo. It can show PSI, KPA or BAR.
Gizzmo Manual

Please list your settings:
Duty
Gain
Open/Closed Loop
Spike Stop Level

The gain was really high around 90 but the duty was around 60ish don't know exactly as it was not the channel I had been tinkering with
The unit target was displaying 3.40 on channel 6
I switched to this channel accidentally thinking I had just changed the settings on it but had in fact changed the settings on a different channel
The unit is 2nd hand so it has had somebody else's settings in that channell
I have set mine to around 1.3 bar and I think the gain is at about 8 and im not sure on the duty, but I will check later.
the other settings are all turned right down to minimum now after my scare
After reading what Nismo has said I think I'll turn it down to 1.2 for now.
I just wanted to make sure it worked before getting my gt28rs fitted in August and Flea re-map shortly afterwards fingers crossed
Cheers

Apart from this you get no more power out of the stock turbo boosting it any higher - just a load of heat to deal with....and the turbo will not last long at all running more than 1.2 of sustained boost.

It also will not hold more than 0.8 bar at the redline - it's just not capable off doing it, no matter how hard you try and force it to with a boost controller.

Hi Suba yes this is why I was asking if it was possibly to get 1.9 from a standard turbo regardless of sustaining it, as I didn't think the standard one was capable of that so i am wondering if I have a hybrid fitted? And there was a hell of a lot of difference between the higher boost and the 1.3 i turned it down to, unless it was just how hard the turbo came in making it feel so much more faster and aggressive.
I was in no way ever querying what the max boost was so that I could boost it to hell, but just to try and establish if my turbo is original or possibly a hybrid. This is really what I was seeking an answer to!
I'm having a gt28rs fitted soon followed by a remap so have no interest in blowing up the engine before this,(or afterwards) I must admit I was a bit naive with the gizzmo as I thought I could set the actual boost pressure as opposed to working out the percentage of something!
I get how to set up the gizzmo now but don't get how it can set boost to a percentage (duty) of something that it has never had the chance to measure the full 100% of
There must be a logic to it but its escaping me at the moment lol
Perhaps it will come to me later on, but i Doubt it crazy
Thanks for your comments they are all appreciated
Cheers

Duty cycle usually means what percentage of the time an electronic or mechanical device (or valve) is turned on (or open).

In your case, the boost controller has a pressure sensor to read the actual boost , so you'll have to try it out (start low) and see how the system responds to the duty cycle you feed it, under different conditions, and adjust accordingly until you are happy that the unit is controlling your boost the way you want. Your boost controller uses pulsewidth modulation (PWM) to effectively cycle or flutter the unit's boost solenoid until it senses the right levels it thinks should go to your wastegate. Lower duty cycles might require a higher frequency of valve cycling.

You can get 2 bar over boost on the stock turbo, and a thump of torque.....it just won't hold it. smile

Just another question does anybody attach the 3rd pipe to the gizzmo solenoid or not bother?
presume it just vents to the turbo inlet pipe so keeping all metered air in?
Remember reading about problems relating to atmospheric dump valves and wondered if the same applied to the 3rd pipe on the solenoid valve mine is currently fitted with just the 2 on leaving the 3rd on the original EBC
Cheers
