Hi All,

I will post a detailed advert in due course, however having made the decision to sell I wanted to "go public". My decision to sell is down to a few things really, with the main reason being money.

Carolina and I have been struggling along paying 2 mortgages for the last 8 months as the sale of our last house fell through. This as you can imagine has put a significant financial strain on us, not withstanding the fact that our new house was a stretch in itself. Couple that with the significant costs of the recent work I have had done on the car and something's got to give.

When I bought the car from Maveric in November 2011 I anticipated some remedial work would be required, largely due to the fact that it had sat unused on his drive for 2 years. It is more than fair to say however that he was economical with the truth in the deal. I paid a specialist to look over the car, and on the face of it all was well so a deal was done. Sadly more work was required than I had anticipated (and budgeted for), but I decided in for a penny and all that and to stick with it!

So, off to FCP for this http://www.fiatcoupeclub.org/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1427013#Post1427013. Budget constraints meant that the build dragged on while I tried to put funds to one side as and when. Well a year and a half after I bought the car and I finally have the coupe I wanted! My priorities have changed, as is often the way, and there are other things that I want to do with my free time. Also, our new house needs significant work and I cannot justify having a credit card balance for work on a "hobby car" when we need new windows and a roof. I will be sorry to see it go (I hope as a whole rather than in bits) as I have spent a FORTUNE on it, and have only had it at home for a couple of weeks and driven it 500 or so miles since buying it in 2011.

Anyway, BORING I hear you say. So the car.... What is it like? Well it goes like a mother cloud9 and sounds cloud9 awesome laugh

If anyone is seriously interested in a coupe like this then send me a pm. I will not let it go for a cheap price, however there will be a Significant saving over you trying to build your own.

Cheers

Sorry to hear this Dave. As you know I'm in a similar poistion myself with your old steel grey coupe, so I can sympathise and understand that it is a difficult decision, although maybe not so difficult when you consider priorities and the things which are most important in life. Great though these cars are, they must come aftern consideration to family, health, home, job, etc.

It's a shame you're having to sell Dave, but, there's always more important things that need money than a car.

There, and that was me saying that. Must admit, it hurt a little.

GLWTS thumb

Such a shame that so many high powered coupes are being sold shortly after builds.
Good luck with the sale and hope things pick up for you soon.

WOW! Your car is what dreams are made of!

Shame you are having to sell it. Especially when you haven't had the chance to truly enjoy it.
Double shame its a million miles out of my price range

I would suspect that once it is done, it is done. A bit like buying a new computer game for £49, playing it to the end and then what do you do with it? I am of a certain age now, but my 300bhp+ Scottie is absolutely at the limit of my driving ability on the road. 600 is an admirable aspiration, but of utterly no use to me either on track or road. I see loads of Ferraris and Lamborghinis at car shows, but I very rarely see one on the road in general use.

Nice reply Tim. But not really enough of a reply to quatify thousands of pounds being laid out on a fiat coupe then sell as soon as it is tuned/built.
It does not make sense.
I am as old as you ! Maybe younger (No Smiley).
But it still does not make sense.

To be honest. I think the very high powered coupes will fall to bits.

Agreed! A bit like an ugly but rich bloke like Peter Crouch spending a night with a hooker when he has Abbey Clancy waiting for him to come home. Seems like a good idea at the time, but....... ERROR;ERROR;ERROR!!

Just in my opinion of course. A mahoosively powerful Coupe must be fun to drive, but my measly 300 Scottie is by far the fastest car I see almost every day. I get burned up by Corsas from the lights on a routine basis, but I just don't feel the need to put them in their place (most of the time).

Everyone has there own reasons, it obviously costs alot to do this to a car and sometimes that can put you off keeping the car any longer, even though you think it could be finished you cant help thinking whats next on the list.

DLT has mentioned his reasons. Mine were different to his, mine was because I had the car for 4 1/2 years and it was time to move on as I started of thinking about 500bhp from 420. Another bag of cash required.

Ontop of that id always wanted a German car after owning 4 Fiats in a row. Like I say, everyone has there own reasons.

At the end of the day you cant keep them forever anyway.......

Well in my case Mr Magoo it's as I have stated above. There are further personal reasons behind the decision which ultimately come back to money, however I think I have been open enough given the audience. Common sense should tell you that any highly tuned car will require money spending on it..... To stop it falling to bits as you say. not withstanding the fact that these are old Fiats we are talking about.

If people have got £50k to spend on a newish car that came out of the factory with 500bhp then seriously buy that not mine. Not everyone on here has an agenda you know. This car would not be an investment. Hope that clears things up for you.

Sorry to see you're selling it Dave frown

Hopefully, it'll go to another good home smile

Just a polite reminder not to post further details about the car on here, as it will be seen as an advert and most probably locked.

Keep the topic as it is and it's all good smile

Massive shame Dave, it's just a pity you haven't had some quality time to enjoy it before getting rid. At least when mine's gone i will know i've had great times in it, and that's my consolation

High-power Coupes will always break more often than standard cars - it goes with the territory

My last three big bills have been two gearboxes and a cylinder head

The gearboxes were a direct result of the mods - way too much torque and a shock load broke the diff on both occasions. Now there's a Quaife in there, it won't happen again.

The cambelt was just unlucky and was nothing to do with the mods - many standard or near-standard Coupes have suffered the same fate

Done properly, a big-powered Coupe can be reliable and usable - the fact that my engine has well over a quarter of a million miles on it (original crank and block) is testament to this

IMHO, big power Coupes that fall to bits were probably not done right in the first place, or possibly were not looked after well enough by their owners. Its way too easy to buy a £1000 Coupe and have it at 300bhp for another few hundred quid - hardly fair to blame the car when it fails

For what it's worth, I'd guess that DLT's car is built properly and is unlikely to "fall to bits", although with 250% of the stock power, its always going to wear stuff out faster than a standard car - unfair to expect otherwise

Definitely mate.

I Will take you up on your offer of the loan of your slicks too if still ok. I went to inflate mine the other day and they were split.

A mate of mine has access to Swansea aerodrome so I may be trying a top speed run before long!
