Drilling floor tiles #1438124

Hello All, I've recently tiled my bathroom floor and cannot drill through the tiles in order to fix the loo down.
The issue is the drill bit is not straight down but at an angle, I've tried everything so far, diamond tipped bits, tile bits.
I'll have to remove the loo if its the only way...
Thanks in advance!

I've recently done the same, here's what I did:

Attach a carbide countersink bit to your drill (obviously must be small enough to fit down the screw hole of your toilet.)

Use the bit to make a small hole in the tile (you should feel it grinding away and eventually perforating the top layer of said tile).

Once you've made a nice hole (maybe 2/3 mm deep), you'll have something that your drill bit can bite into and you should find drilling an angled hole is a piece of cake.

I think I used a normal drillbit - but a small one - to get the hole started then went at it with whatever size it was I needed.
You'll wreck the original drillbit this way but they're not exactly expensive.
I did it before I'd installed the toilet though.

Thanks for the tip, will get one tonight and try again. Otherwise I'll have to remove the bloody thing.

It'll be quicker to remove it. Close water supply. Flush. Undo water supply. Yank out toilet.

If you have a small Dremel that might do the trick as well to get started - or more. Or an angled drill head.

I've found the Bosch Multipurpose drill bits to be really good at drilling into tiles:

If they're porcelain tiles then good luck, they're very hard tiles, even the carbide tipped tile bits struggle. I tiled someones bathroom with porcelain tiles and went through 6 bits just to put the shower screen up.

You could try what an electrician did at another house I tiled with porcelain tiles , as soon as the drill bit (masonary) marked the tile switched it to hammer shocked (not recommended) I couldn't watch. If they're ceramic it should be a breeze, so i'm guessing they're porcelain.

Master bodger advice: don't bother with drilling the tiles. Mastic the pan down with some sealant - it'll never move once it's gone off, and you only need a tiny amount. Then cut the heads of the pan screws and mastic these over the holes. Job done. That'll be £20 please.

Porcelain tiles can be a pita. I usually use the arrow shaped drill bit(s) for porcelain tiles and keep cooling it down with water, normal tiles should not pose a problem

I struggled with porcelain tiles too until I tried the the Bosch multipurpose drill bits I linked to above on some thick porcelain tiles.

They were really good. I started off with the arrow head shaped tile drill bits just to give the other drill bits an indentation to sit into, otherwise they would slip all over if drilling polished porcelain. Some water-cooling is still needed otherwise the drill bit will burn.

I've used sealant (loads of it) and it's solid enough - Thanks!

The hardest part of the tile is the surface, use a small masonry drill off hammer (light pressure) to crack/break the glazing then you can continue on hammer with not too much pressure until you are past the tile adhesive, then drill out with correct size drill or in stages of drills, but always with minimal pressure ( let the drill do the work )
