Aye it's been mentioned on here a few times over the last year or so. Pity it has such an uninteresting and underpowered 8v lump in it.

That Coupe, and the Silver 20v with bling wheels, have been on eBay longer than any Coupe in record,

That's what makes it interesting in my books. My understanding was that it was an engless coupe and a diesel unit that was lying around.

Just a bit of fun but do agree a modern TD lump would fit the bill nicely.

Coupe now sold!

Not that I would in my crono, but wonder if you could fit the 2.4 lump as in my Croma (and 159s)?

Removing the DPF +remap returns 245bhp and 345lb torque according to Angel tuning - which is on the Cromas shopping list wink

I've always fancied a coupe with the 1.9JTD multi 150 engine in it...

Surely its just begging for a remapped 2.4 Jtd....

About 250 bhp and 350+ lb-ft, along with 40-ish mpg

the 1.9 is good, but the 2.4 would/could suit the Coupe.

I disagree.

If you want out and out power, stick with the five pot petrol. But the diesel is a heavy lump and the coupe's handling is better with less weight at the front... with a diesel, I'm not looking for power, I'm looking for a quarter million miles at better than 50mpg.

The proper way to do it would include pretty much all the goodies on the Bravo, so you'd get the cruise control, six speed box, bluetooth and such like.

If you want economy and weight saving, the only way to go would be the 1.2 16valve from the Bravo of old. Realistically as much power as you need for commuting.

A phenomenal daily drive that would make. Fantastical simple for home maintenance, cheap parts, and the coupé looks.

For me we already have a good looking diesel coupé available; the Alfa gt. So why bother?

Exactly - I wanted a cheap, good looking Italian Coupe that could do 0-100 in under ten seconds AND return close to 50mpg. I couldn't find one, so I kept my Coupe and bought an Alfa GT - best of both worlds....

And I think this is why that diesel coupé has been up for so long. You'll mess around with insurance for it and not really have anything you couldn't for less effort.

The Alfa GT should of had the 2.4! So much character for a diesel, despite being heavy, they are fine in a 156!!

Hey all. I'm in the process of doing a Coupe diesel.conversion. It's not something I set out to do, but a number of factors lead to it. 1) I killed the engine on my 20VT, after putting a load of work and money into it. 2) my daily work commute went from 20 miles a day to 80. 3) I can't afford the Alfa GT I want. 4) I picked up a crashed 04 marea 110 JTD for handy money.
At the start I was hoping to go for a 2.4 conversion, but 2.4 Mareas are very rare. Especially in Eire. And the front would be much heavier.
Engine and box are out of the Coupe, now going to start on the Marea.
Anybody know if the JTD engine would mate to the 20VT Box? The ratios ar a little out but bearable. It would be nice to keep the viscous drive. Failing that, I'm not sure the JTD shafts would fit the 20VT hubs. Anyway, just introducing myself; I've no doubt I'll be asking questions here a lot before I have roadworthy car to drive.
Wish me luck.

Good luck Dr Dave, perhaps it may be worthwhile speaking to Gaz on this forum.

His company did a diesel coupe based on a 16vt and a 2 litre Alfa engine. There may be some useful experience there despite the different engines.

16VT and X1/9 1500

We must all do our part for the planet.
I unplugged a row of electric cars that nobody was using.

1.9 JTD 16v engine conversion is one I've considered. Haven't got as far as looking at the actual fitting, yet, though, but it pops up in cars which also fit the 2.0NA lump, so there's a good chance it will go in.

However... one thing to bear in mind is that you will certainly have to swap in the appropriate ECU and I wonder how much of the existing wiring could be retained - it might be worth (to handle instrumentation, steering wheel controls, key ID and such like) swapping the entire loom...

I haven't seen the JTD 16V in anything the vintage of the Coupe. Marea is about the closest. Anyway, I doubt I could have gotten a driving car with a 16V engine for €300.
I think I'll have to take most of the loom with the JTD engine and splice all the wires from the ECU onto the relevant wires of the Coupe.
I have all that info for the the Marea, need to get it for the Coupe.

Mk 1 Bravos might be worth a look. They're a little after the coupe but as the marea share some engines. What you really need to is to find a 2007 Bravo that's been walloped up the backside... (or a 1.9 saab or vauxhall - same engine)

There are diagrams for the wiring on the various coupes available in the FAQ section; better diagrams are available for members.
