Hi

Just had a Gt3040 fitted with external wastegate along with new 3" downpipe.

Drove the couple of miles home and noticed some smoke coming from the engine bay.

The external wastegate was extremely hot, so hot if you touched it with something wet it would flash boil it.

Obviously its attached to the manifold but is this sort of temperature to be expected, will it operate correctly when so hot ?

Would the smoke have come from the new protective heat wrap around the down pipe?

I had to lose one of the fans to squeeze the above in, are temps likely to be an ongoing issue ?

I can upload a picture of the install if it helps.

Any info appreciated

Exhaust gas temps will be several hundred degrees - anything that's connected to the exhaust will be a similar temperature

Even driving gently will generate temps of a couple of hundred degrees

Smoke is common from exhaust wrap - I got it from mine when it was first done

Got a very similar kit fitted to the FCSS track car, temps on the external wastegate get seriously hot like you said, perfectly normal, as for the smoke, again completely normal, it is caused by the oil, mainly from pulling and refitting parts on the engine bay, it will stop after a couple of runs, just needs to burn off laugh

Nothing to worry about.

Fans will only be a factor in traffic rather than moving.

The smoke is going to be from the exhaust wrap whilst it beds in, and should be gone after a couple of runs in the car.
