Been through a few post about disc and pads. Am currently running Mtec disc's with standard pads as when i bought the car pads were low. Have noticed they work good but not for very long. And after a run out other night started to fade quickly.

Seen a lot of people using EBC yellow stuff but with different results. Am planning stage 2 remap when back off holiday so think best getting brakes sorted before getting more power be best idea.

I apologies been up few times but am new to coupes thought be best to ask.

Any help would be great

Cheers Ryan

What do you use the car for? Road / track etc....

Yellows are good - but not great for road use as they are poor from cold, which is a general trend as you get pads that will not fade at temperature.

Brake fluid choice comes into it a high temps as well.

manly fast road not ventured onto track yet as the coupe is a weekend toy after driving work van all week.

my brother (stripped mk2 golf vr6) and a mate (mk3 golf supercharged vr6) have both got EBC green stuff pads as there a slight compromise between fast road/track which is my goal after remap, suspension etc

has anyone tried green stuff on a coupe???

Don't think you can buy green stuff for the brembo brakes.

OMP fast road. I use them with Mtec discs and it's a great fast road combo IMO.

They bite from cold like a standard road pad and they don't squeal.

They're cheap to buy as well.

^ Be careful with these pads if you go for them on the rears too, I bought some OMP Road/Sport rears and they didn't fit my calipers frown

Something about later/newer caliper designs on the Coupe, one steel, one hens teeth or something.

I had a similar issue on the front callipers with standard pads the top part of the pad was too big had to grind it down a tiny bit to slide them in

Over the last 12+ years with Coupes, I've used a wide selection of discs and pad combinations.

Some work very well together and some appear to be incompatible

For example, DBA discs and Pagid pads are a marriage made in heaven (for me at least) - huge stopping power and great durability from both the pad and the disc. DBAs are one of only two makes of disc that I have thrown away due to wearing out, rather than down to warping.

The other disc type is MTec, which given the price differential to DBA is amazing. I'm now running Ferodo DS2500, which are pretty useless when cold, but OK when hot. Too early to say how well they'll last. One early bonus s that they don't squeal.

However, my previous set of Mtec discs died a horrible death at the hands of a set of Carbotech pads -
Close-up - after just 10,000 miles

No idea what caused this, but they were still straight when they came off. Also, the Carbotech were by far the dirtiest pad I've ever used, with massive levels of dust

that looks a bit nasty, were the pads too abrasive for the disc's?

my breaks squeal, doesn't really bother me got used to it now smile

performance when cold not a massive issue as long as they stop me when driving normal.

other night after 10-15min blast brakes started to fade rather fast once hot and lost confidence. need something in between but by the sounds of it doesn't really existed

Yes, YBRacing. I had fronts and rear and they fitted perfectly on my '97 20vt.

They look like 3G discs Nigel? I have the slotted Mtecs and the slots aren't like that at all.

Personally, I would stay away from OMP Road & Sport. To me they are worse then Apec pads. Only pads by OMP worth considering are 971c but they are no good for road use. I can highly recommend Ferodo DS2500 or simply Ferodo Premier pads. I don't agree with Nigel's statement that they are pretty useless from cold. I think that they are as good fro cold as Ferodo Premier and better than OMP R&S. Lets put it this way, if Barbz uses DS2500 then they have to be good choice, right? wink

I am using EBC Redstuff pads(front) and EBC Ultimax (rear)+ Mtec Slotted discs. No fade at all and there is a big difference compared to stock brake discs and pads!

I currently have yellows on. I have a bit of squeal. But they do work well.
