Bored of my Gold GTTDI and I am doing less miles now.
Always had none turbo volvo's as I grew up.
Need an estate so thinking of a Volvo 940 2.3 litre light pressure turbo. A whole 135 bhp!!!!. A tidy one costs £1,000.
Apparently a wideband afm and manual boost controller gets you near 200 bhp and £1,000 for a turbo, 3 inch exhaust, boost controller and mapping gives you 300 bhp!!!!
Got to be more fun than a £2,000 golf!!!
Any thoughts, advice, tips or comments?

Volvos are awesome.
Get the v70 estate and ensure you get the 2.3t5 not the 2.5.
2.3 more power and more potential .240bhp as standard. 2.5 suffer cracking when pushed.
Be careful with the boost or you'll see the conrods being forced through the alternator.

The "R" was 4x4 so when modded will launch equal to an RS6

I have an Apex Performance manual boost controller you can have for the cost of the postage. PM me if you are interested. I used it on my Coupe for 3 years before upgrading to an EBC.

Well I have now fitted a Gizzmo electronic boost controller. Seems to feel like 180bhp ish. Based on bum dyno and comparing with a hpt 940!
Starting to feel brisk but highlighting the need to knock some height out of it!!!! (PI lowering springs are imminent)
However I am having difficulty maintaining boost pressure. I have been told that the wastegate is not adjustable and assume as it was originally running 3.5psi that this is the cause of my being unable to hold boost.(mitsubishi TD04)
I realise that I need exhaust, wideband afm and bigger injectors
BUT - I have no clue what turbo to fit to get a solid level of boost and hit 200bhp on low boost and 280 on high (200bhp/ton is my ideal target)
Any advice on what the best turbos are and any tips on which car to get it off????

Could have just got an V70 T5 R....... didn't they have 300bhp standard?
Didn't Clarkson /Hammond / May drive one one one of the Top Gear foreign muddy challenges?

Yeah, I used to get the rear end out easily in the wet. Good run, especially with the cheapo Barum tyres I used to run. Part-exed the 340 against a Mk 1 Punto 75 Sx, complete with pink (sorry, I mean red) paintwork. What a car. 75 bhp of 1.2 fire magic. Funnily enough, it came alive after 4krpm just like my NA Coupe.
