I with you on that, I am currently seeking employment (12 weeks and counting) but my biggest problem is with the recruitment agencies.

I am a 47 year old Graphic Designer with 15 years experience working with some good 'Blue Chip' companies. I apply for jobs through the internet on agency websites and very rarely here anything. When I do, they say I don't have the right talents, I am not qualified enough or the best one is I am too qualified, which is there legal way of saying I'm too old. The agencies are run as a profit organisation and are not interested in job hunters looking for permanent positions, they are only interested in you working for them in a temporary positions at other companies.

I recently went into the Job Centre and explained this to them and their reply was "thats the way it is these days, keep trying".

For £$%^'s sake how can I.

The problem I also have is that I used to do a bit of Freelance work, not enough to pay the mortgage, but a small bit of pocket money at the end of the odd month. I have had to knock that on the head as if I was to invoice them, I would lose my job seekers allowance and more importantly, I'll lose my mortgage insurance payment.

It's hard out there and I do feel very sorry for people in the same position as me that WANT TO WORK.

Rant not over, just taking a breather.

Well done VolumeX, I bet it feels like you made parole.

Good luck.

Major annoyance: jobs advertised by agencies who will say "Job, £good, Hertfordshire" - they won't say how much, they won't say where, they won't say who... how the hell do I know whether I want even to apply? The same description seems to match jobs at 20 grand and 50... waste of bloody time!

I'm currently considering a change of jobs & do agree about these recruitment agencies.
It seems as if they won't really give me any detail about the job until I apply.
Now they have my cv, never ending calls !!!! & I probably won't get the job too.

MrsC has applied for over 100 jobs in the last year, almost 200 in the last two and a half and 29 in the last month. The killer is that now potential employers say she doesn't have recent experience. Get out of that one.

Congratulations on your new job, especially after two years. These days there's no such thing as job for life, & making changes in a new direction can be daunting the older you get.

I was in the oil industry for the best part of thirty years, towards the end I was in & out of employment chasing contracts & did some time abroad. Long hours & little social life was a bit of a drag. I've totally changed direction & now I'm a care worker. Had to do SVQ in care standards & other training, for me that was a bit of a big deal, especially so chasing sixty fast hippy

Hope things work out for you volumex.

I'm an old git & happy with it,most of the time
