Hi all,

i fell in love with the lines of the fiat coupe and i am seriously considering selling my A-class benz and getting a fiat coupe instead.

i was thinking a 16VT because it seems to me these engines are easier to work on then on a 20VT. ( correct me if i',m wrong)

although i do own a motorcycle that i drive most of the year, i do have a car for when it storms outside, or there is snow and riding a 2 wheeler simply isnt possible.

i do most maintenance on car and motorcycle myself and i was wondering if a fiat coupe 16VT would be a good choice for me. it will be standing outside and driven in wintertime as well as summertime.

hope you can give me some good advice on this.

Hi. 16VT engine bays are definitely easier to work in; a lot more space to swing spanners, cam belt changes are a piece of cake. The 16VT's also seem to have fewer inherent problems: no "Coolant hose of death", no cracked exhaust manifolds, no squeaky Brembo brakes - although they do on rare occasions like to eat their own exhaust cams!

As daily drivers they're both very good. The 20VT has slightly better fuel mileage (about 28-30 mpg, instead of 25-30 mpg for the 16VT). Plus, to drive it feels a little bit smoother and more refined, if you like that sort of thing. Having said that, they're both great cars to drive for long distances.

i've decided to go and look for a 16vt since having some room to use my tools is a huge plus for me.

do you how available spare parts are for these engines? can i still get new parts?

I use mine as a daily driver, have done for the last 8 years.

Parts are still readily available from the various specialists you will find associated with this Forum.

I don't use mine daily but it is my only car! 16v is definitely easier to work on.

I am a bit slow on this forum sometimes, lol.

I have used a 16vt as my daily driver since 2006. Always been reliable. Some parts are not so easy to locate nowadays. But all that I have needed has been found without much hassle.

16V N/A should not be overlooked as a daily driver too. Better gear ratios for city and slower speed driving. Turbos are more like a GT, really at home on the freeway at 130km/hr

Steve,do you have that speed limit in Victoria, or like us, only 110 km/h on some freeways? Yes, the turbos do like to "go" on the open road.

I think we have all been known to exceed the speed limit on safe roads with little or no traffic!

No, sadly 110 is the highest limit in Victoria. I was referring to the Italian freeways. I'm off to Phillip Island next weekend for the MotoGP and the highest speed the whole way there is only 100! It's SO tedious in a Coupe at 100.
