Windows should have unzip built in, but if it's not working you can use the free 7 zip software from: http://www.7-zip.org/

Yes, you need to unzip the archive. Or just right click the file and unzip it directly to the directory there.

Hi thank you for all you information I have now unzipped the files and they have saved to my documents. When I go into it and click open one file says incorrect command line and the second file comes up with a box with a selection to run when I click that a box pops up and then goes. Is there anything else I need to do or do I need the cables from here. Thanks

You need the cable to do anything useful, yes.
It's a command prompt program so you need to run it from a prompt, not directly from windows explorer, or it'll just open and close like you say.

When you get the cables, you may need to download and install the drivers. I'm always *very* cautious about 'run me' disks that come with the cables... Windows 7 and 8 may do the installation automatically. If not, check http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm and follow their instructions. Check in 'device manager' to see which serial port the USB has been attached to, and use that number as the last parameter in the command when you run it.

To run the startrek software, does your engine have to be running as when I select it, the screen pops up for a split second then goes

No, but the ignition will have to be on.
You need to run the program from a command prompt otherwise it'll shut down instantly.
Click START, RUN, type "CMD" and hit enter. A command prompt window will open and you then have to navigate to wherever you unzipped the files to and run the main program.
