As title really.
I'm looking at a car with a slipping clutch and the belts are due as well.
Whats the going rate for the work and should I get the waterpump done as well?

Belts c£500 or more, always get the water pump done because if you don't and it starts leaking, as my yellow one did, you have to do the belts again..... rolleyes

You have to be looking at about £900 or £1,000 for those two jobs. Supply and fixed by a specialist.

Yep £835 is the cheapest I've seen so far for belts, pump and clutch.

The belts I might attempt myself but not the clutch.
Time for some more reading up!

To be fair after an £835 spend that's 2 big jobs out of the way.
I'm guessing the car is going cheaper as it needs these doing?

So for £1600 you could have a 20vt with fresh belts and a clutch. As long as the car is OK in all other areas it would be a good buy smile

You could buy a £1600 coupe that still might need these in the next year or so.

I'd also recommend getting the cam sensor replaced at the same time as the belts.

The list is growing. Still, I'd rather run a 20VT than a twin spark GTV any day! (or an RX8 for that matter :D)

It's running over 300 ponies Dan so the clutch is giving in I think, but it has a noisy waterpump so I will need to do belts anyway. The body seems pretty straight and the interior is good too.

I'm hoping to get more than 13 mpg out of a 20v Phil!

Is the cam sensor a pig to get at then daithi?

Cam sensor is best done when changing the belts, otherwise the belts have to come off anyway to get at it, i believe

And you need to take the exhaust pulley off. Carefully too otherwise you damage the sensor pick up.

Despite the forum technical page grumbles its rare for a phase sensor or pump to cause issues.

So save £200 and stick with the belts and clutch which will set you back £700 all inc.

Thats a good price but the seller is saying the waterpump is grumbling so it would make sense to change it at the same time?

More than likely the aux tensioners or the timing idler that's causing the noise.
I've only ever done a handful of pumps for leaking in 15 years and do maybe 2 phase sensors a year and see on average 200 coupes per year.

I would certainly put more emphasis on the auxiliary side as that's a known failure .

Would a standard clutch be ok for a 300+bhp car?

depends on the turbo / power delivery, and how much over 300 bhp!

Alfa GTA clutch is a straight fit, and holds a little more than stock 20VT clutch, will be ok for 300bhp as long as you dont launch the c*ap out of the car all the time, and the turbo spool is not very 'thumpy'. laugh

Anything more than this level and the clutch cost jumps quote a bit.

Looks like it's sold but he reckoned it was over 320. GT28, front mount, full stainless, induction kit and live map.

Valeo stock clutch will be fine with 300bhp

Disregard my prices as I'm solid till may next year but might be worth contacting Motormech to see if they can compete with prices and availability.

Again the Alfa Gta clutch is a downgrade not an upgrade.
Doesn't have the clamping force the coupe clutch does, and has been discussed many a time.

I'm so out of date.... laugh. I guess my GTA clutch did have a heavier cover on it back when I had a coupe though. smile

I will definitely listen to any advice from JC and the other respected members on here as I know very little about the coupe! I've got my eye on one though so watch this space. laugh

JBT did my belts and clutch for well under a grand. I'd recommend him if you're close by (Staffs is close enough I'd think?)
