Let's hope this does not grow to the size of last years "it's snowing" thread, novely soon went away Still, it looks nice and fresh out there Hanny Def fresh - you cant really shelter from the wind I have a bit of an interest in Met/Weather and and tend to read some post on this site, Netweather - on the whole its quite informative with some very clever people - most well over my head but can be interesting. Anyway, albeit that this site can have its ups/downs as with many forums but their prediction is based on a number of weather models and currently the prediction is that the second/third week of Dec may see/have a colder spell as some polar air invades the UK, this may bring the temperatures down below average and if it follows the early indicators this might bring a bit of snow to northern high areas but the jury is still out if this event could produce any snow for other areas, as to how much and where is still a bit way out at the moment in terms of the models indicating but it looks reasonable. The 'Big Freeze' headlines from some media sites are based on some 'goons' who have been predicting weather 'for sales' and made assumptions earlier in the year which is quite bizarre when there is no real certainty with regards to weather forecast beyond a 3-5 day period - big headlines sell regardles if its true or not........

All that weather chat on the netweather forum geeked me out but the photography section is well worth a browse: Weather photos Could get some great wallpaper material from there. Hanny, just wondering if anybody ever tries casting a line off the rig?

Hanny, just wondering if anybody ever tries casting a line off the rig? Generally on offshore facilities they have in the past but due to a few issues when guys have caught sharks/big fish (in the summer months) - it can be a bit of an issue landing them. Plus the platforms are quite high, to get to the lower levels you have to get special permits to access the areas as there is no monitoring should someone go overboard - to that end most platforms have a no fishing policy. I have heard of some plaforms in the warmer climates where guys fishing have caught turtles which is a big NO NO and the plaform owners, if found out, can face massive fines - which I agree with. So in summary no fishing policy on the rigs I have been on.

You have anything to to with Gyrodata, Hanny? Not sure if you're on one of our sites. No mate - am on the South Arne project, just installed two new drilling platforms, one joined by a bridge to the existing South Arne platform and the other only a couple of km away - we just got first oil hence my signature - and back to the UK to normal place of work in Leatherhead - been a long 2.5 years but the end is in sight.

off topic, but what sort of shift pattern do you work hanny? I don't really, I manage the engineering and installation, I only get my hands dirty if it all goes wrong then I find the solution and in some cases do it myself ....'Sacrebleu'.... then crucify the subcontractors/vendors when try to bill us, I basically represent the rig owner/operator.

There is definately a correlation between people who work on oil rigs and petrolheads. Do you get paid in barrels of oil?

The link you gave wouldn't work for me Hanny, this one did if anyone else has problems (or could give a toss about sensationalist weather forecasts). http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/448115/...ods-threaten-UK

We must all do our part for the planet. I unplugged a row of electric cars that nobody was using. I even unplugged my own.
