Coupe challenge report comparing the Fiat Coupe 20VT v Honda Prelude, BMW 328i and Nissan 200SX.
The summary placed the Fiat first with the following conclusion;
"There are few cars with the capacity to thrill like this one - and for such a reasonable price. If Fiat had asked £25,000 we might have raised our eyebrows - but only a little. Instead, you're getting a 150mph performance for a lot less. Climb in, buckle up and hang on for an experience you won't believe"

Back then I owned a 3 series saloon and would only have aspired to the 328i. Very glad I got the chance to try the 20VT second time around!

Aside from the road tests, ads etc, one article really caught my eye and that was the one about satnavs!

Magneti Marelli, Philips Carin, Blaupunkt Travel Pilot, Alpine NVE ranged in price between £2995 - £3999 plus fitting! It is amazing to think today's systems now only cost 5-10% of 1997 prices!!!

Whatever happened to Vauxhall's Trafficmaster??? laugh

Back to the cars, the Alfa 145/6 gets a mention, but probably the most significant new car highlighted was the Audi A3 1.8T.

Ahhh, the late 90's. Takes me back to my first Fiat... my 1995 Fiat Punto 75 SX. A short time later, the Mrs got herself a Mk1 Bravo 100 SX. Great cars.

That 1.8T VAG engine was/is awesome.... apart from the dodgy coilpacks. I still hanker after an Audi TT..... for some reason.

All joking aside, the TT was a great design, with superb build quality, perhaps let down by the Mk4 Golf chassis. Still without the Golf it would never have happened (a bit like the Tipo/Coupe)?

Impressive loyalty to the Fiat brand Gripped though!!! wink
