Rears are 2 way 165mm (6.5"). You can fit larger speakers as there's plenty of space. I've got some 10" subs there. "Best" is quite subjective and depends on your budget.

Agree with Roger as the subs do look I have some 6x9s in there but only because i had them kicking about the garage. The standard spekers are attached to the rear quarter panels, which is why they sound so pants (although the speakers are poor too). Fixing the speakers to the inner panel bodywork makes a big difference especially if you add the sound proofing as Roger has. JOhn

No HU will be powerful enough to get the best from subs, they are not big enough and there is not enough room for sufficinet cooling in the dash.
Go for a separate amp which can be bridged, its quite easy to fit and makes for a far better install.

There's a picture of the rear panel at the bottom of the page linked further up - here too. Is that what you were looking for? The new hole is covered by acoustic cloth, so it isn't rigid as such.

I cut the hole with a Stanley knife and finished it with some PVC beading.

I have my 6xps fitted behind the lower existing speaker grille. No cutting and looks standard. Will post a Pic later

John,
I'd be interested in this when you've finished if you don't mind sharing the info.
Don't really want any speakers pertruding, want a standard look.
Roger has done the sub's very well, but I think the 6x9's will do me for now.

does anyone recommend fitting 6 x 9 components in the rear?
By putting the woofers on the rear parcel shelf, and the tweeters in the rear door panels, where the factory rear speakers are?
It seems odd to me that the rear speakers are in the rear doors like that, unlike most cars which seem to have them on the rear parcel shelf?

oh, that's a shame because I really think it helps the sound when the speakers are up there. I won't argue with your advice for a second though! (not if it's structural)!

You can do this, which places the speakers a bit higher.

I did a little write-up here. I don't use very high bass levels, but it can pump it out if required. It'd need some fibreglass lining to get the bass really tight, but it's fine for me as is. You could also use a free air sub. Using two subs helps keep the vibration of interior trim away for quite high levels of bass.

you wont get rid of the vibes mate unless you dynamte the the inside of the quarter panel aswell as the frame and then you would have to use rock wool and the way the instalation is, you would be better using a free air sub, as this locatin is not suitable for sq tight base.

I'm using two 8" subs and they tend to sound awfull because of the vibes you hear...they reck all the sound
I've dynamated the all inside of the quarter panel , but not the cover of the panel...that's where I'm getting the vibrantions from...that cover just swings like a 60's teenager

I have a 12" sub in a box in the boot. Need to have a decently powerful amp to hear and feel the bass. The bass is decent but cuts your boot space in 1/2.
