I used to hate Schumacher but grew to realise what a fantastic driver he was. I think he's done lots of charity work and gave something north of $10,000,000 to the Boxing Day tsunami fund. I didn't appreciate some of his on-track activity. I really hope he's ok though - head injuries can be really insidious and it's a real lesson to all of us to take bumps on the head really seriously.

I do hope he pulls through. I remember Liam Neesons wife, Natasha Richardson, having a bump on the slopes and not going to hospital only to have a headache and attend later but sadly died of an epidural hematoma a couple of days later.

At least Michael was in hospital from the outset so I would think his chances or recovery are far greater.

They were saying on the news this morning, that he had a helmet on, hit the rock and got up and carried on without issue till about an hour later when he fell into a coma and then taken to hospital.

It apparently took 6 minutes between getting the call and the helicopter landing with him at hospital; I was surprised he went initially to Moutiers rather than Grenoble. It must be unimaginably awful for his family and especially his son, who I believe was with him at the time...

Shock horror - apparently a scratch on his Ski's indicates he did indeed hit a rock..... the Beeb are really dragging this one out with such limited progress updates.

Great news, he's out of the coma, and has left hospital

I've been tracking this story over the weekend - originally it was announced by a rather dodgy-sounding German magazine and seemed very far fetched, but has now been confirmed by his manager, it seems.
I suspect that he has been deliberately brought out of the medically-induced coma and has been moved either to another medical facility for rehabilitation or perhaps his home has been modified.
Where I would be cautious is in assuming that not being in a coma means he is going to be recognisably the person he was.

Just heard this on the news, and reading between the lines that there is to be no further news on his condition or progress, makes one believe that there will be NO good news and he has suffered a serious and permanent brain injury

Yes... it does seem quite abrupt to release him without any indication of his condition other than "not in a coma." Doesn't sound good... but I remain hopeful.

I heard a few weeks ago that they had built a 10 million pound medical facility at his home. I though it was bull at the time but maybe there's some truth in it!
