Anyone running a straight through system?

Just the other day I caught my exhaust clamp on a speed bump causing the exhaust to split at the decat.

Couldn't help but think how nice it sounded without the rear back box. Not just a horrible loud brash noise either, it wasn't that loud. But I have owned an impreza with a nur spec exhaust which was ear bursting loud.

As I don't like my tail pipe anyways I'm thinking of having a pipe made from the cat back without a back box.

Anybody done this.

I think a side exit would be fantastic! just not sure of the legalities

I drove around with no backbox for a couple of months and it was no louder than mine is now with a stainless cat back, although this was the original exhaust so there was still a middle box!

I have a 3" system straight through from the turbo to the tailpipe

It was originally built with a single small backbox, which gave an entertaining noise, but it was unbearable when simply cruising - lots of booming and resonance - noise reading was 94db

I had a huge centre silencer added (still straight through, but with a perforated pipe and lots of sound-absorbent material), which dropped the sound level to 91db and made it much more bearable

94b is fine with me my impreza was sitting at 120db. I think my decat has a silencer as part of it as it's not just a pipe it's boxed.

I have a 3" turbo back, one straight through midbox and a miltek back box. Planning on fitting a y pipe after the mid box with a valve so i can open it out to 3" at the flick of a switch.

So will have a 3" turbo back, 3" straight through mid box and then split into 3" straight pipe and also a 2.5" miltek.

Best of both worlds, quite cruising and awesome when hooning it smile

Also had a 3" turbo to back box but had to weld in 2 silencers. No doubting it sounded nice but on the motorway I couldn't talk to the person beside me without shouting, just to loud.

No legal issues (providing it's below noise limits) - just bloody loud!

i removed my rear section, stock dp and cat in place. then made a side exit exhaust from the cat back, exits on pass side just before the wheel.

it sounds incredible! it bounces back off walls etc and just sounds awsome.

its not boomy, and its actually pretty quiet when driving normally, and motorway cruising! only makes an awsome noise when you give it large and the boost comes on.

i have a db meter, and at 5 thousand rpm its around 93db, which is quiet according to the spl meter, but to the ear it sounds louder lol.

Mine has no backbox and I was considering a side exit so would be interested in where yours is fixed etc.

I've never seen this on a coupe! I would love to have that.
Have you any pics?

And is is just downpipe, cat, then a exit to left or right?

Why not a modded down pipe straight out the side? I bet that sounds good

120 DB is just absolutely ridiculous, you'd have to wear ear plugs to avoid hearing damage. Also totally un-necessary for power as well. A lot of the jap exhausts are just silly loud for no reason, my brothers HKS 'Silent Hi power' on his Skyline needed two extra silencers put into in to get it below 100 DB! rolleyes

...and a blindfold to avoid bleeding eyes if you ever saw a Coop with a side exit exhaust suicide

Sparco had one looked good because he cut into the LE skirt so it wasn't in your face

It was extremely loud no ear plugs needed though just got used to it in the end. I had to park my car up the street to avoid complaints. My evo 6 was 97db which seems silent in comparison.

Must've been fairly quiet as tracks are strict on noise levels.

This is how my 16vt sounds.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cus2FotVGCE&app=desktop

3" downpipe, and straight through pipe to the end (no backbox). It is a bit loud when starting from low rpm, but after 2000rpm it is OK. Driving on highway is also possible without taking pills for headache after you arrive to your destination wink

Anyone got any sources for these 3" turbo-back pipes? I'm pretty urgently looking for a replacement. Price, as ever, is (almost) no object!
