Any forum experts?

Nothing too serious. I bought a new screen for the girlfriend's iphone. Trouble is it's lasted just over a month. We had it confirmed at a local shop.

I've emailed the seller as it came via ebay and all that's been offered is the opportunity to purchase another at a discounted rate. Obviously we don't want to pay again given how long this one lasted.

Here's were I'm confused. The seller turns out to be based in Hong Kong, but the ad clearly states UK. Have I got the right to reject the item under the sales of goods act/distance selling regulations?

DSR will only apply if they are a business seller based in the UK. Also as it is over a month, DSR won't apply.

Sale of goods legislation would be relevant for UK purchases. On the international side, no idea and probably not cost-effective to explore

As they held themselves out as UK and are not - ie you were effectively conned out of your UK statutory rights, I suspect ebay will see that as probably grounds to set aside the transaction and reimburse you. That is the way I would go

No worries.

However, as I am based in the Cayman Islands and my fingers are crossed there are no backsies and you follow my advice at your own risk!
