Which model and spec is going to be the one to have?

Reading through some other threads it got me thinking. I think it may be the 16 valve na in a bright colour like broom, and totally standard. But given how quickly these cars are dropping could it be what ever is available?

I'd say probably LE or Pluses as those things are getting rarer by the day!

Do you think number of owners will make a difference? There are so few 16na engined cars around that surely condition would be key?

But what about late VT6 cars? In my opinion the LE isn't that desirable as it's not that limited, and the interior is very Marmite. Another angle on the six speed cars; they're the ones with the perceived value. Might we see all but the six speed cars disappear leaving the early spec cars the rarer and therefore more sought?

Just a thought, I don't know.

You might find that LE's become less rare by percentage as the model numbers reduce as they are perceived to be the "collector's" car and would carry a certain amount of cache and therefore be kept more and in better condition. Just a forward looking thought.
So as already mentioned, more "standard" models become rarer. Whether that means that they are more collectible? Remains to be seen, only the market will decide.

I would say untouched examples with low mileage will fetch a high premium in years to come. Even more so a VT6 or PLUS/LE.

I imagine most of the VT6,s will have vanished in a cloud of rust by then. It seems the late coupes are suffering from rust more than others.

A nice yellow 16vt for my retirement will do just nice.

Naturally a higher spec 20vt surely, the Flagship Sprinty Plus or Rare Chrono LE... They are the rarest, In my opinion the most desirable & most collectable..

A VT6 is likely to be as collectable as a regular 20vt... Not as desirable as the above..

I'd love a red or vinci LE 20vT to drive daily and cherish and a red 16vT in my garage for safe-keeping.

In 20years, only Coupes in a poly bubble, stored in a temp controlled garage will be alive, The same reason you don't see Vauxhall Novas blasting round, they were when I passed my driving test in 1999, they have all but a few dissolved now..

That's very true Chrissy. I remember when Novas were all over the place, especially with the C20XE engines. Now Corsa B's and Novas seem to be nowhere....result.

What can replace the Coupe though? Something will have to!

Possibly a Focus ST for the 5 pot, Or a Brera 3.2?

Yeah I think focus st would be a good car when it bottoms out price wise but it doesn't have the eye catching looks of the coupe

Focus ST's and RS's have always interested me but never really struck me as a great car and I hear the fuel consumption is abysmal. What I can't work out is why the Coupe is so much better on fuel than most turbo-charged cars.

Veering off-track a little but I was suprised by these figures from the latest Peugeot RCZ-R:
0-62mph 6.1sec Top speed 155mph Economy 44.8mpg CO2 145g/km Kerbweight 1355kg Engine 4cyls, 1598cc, turbocharged petrol Installation Front, transverse, front-wheel drive Power 267bhp at 6000rpm

Small capacity with Turbo is the current way to go - the Coupe is amazing for a 2.0

You can put up with that kind of mpg if your driving something really special but from a ford focus it's just not justifiable, I had a 996 carrera 4s that was better on fuel than the st

I must admit those are pretty impressive figures for a 1.6 in both performance and economy. A standard 20vt may have trouble seeing one off.

I've always liked the look of those RCZ's but never thought they're fast enough for the look.

One thing the coupe has over most cars now and then it has style matched with great design. Are there any car design that matches this today??????

Maybe another way to look at it how many cars today are real head turners priced in the same price band?????

Or if this car was launched today would you buy one based on it's engineering, design, style and wow factor?????

I would like to think that both of my coupes are still here in 20 years. This design will still turn heads now and in 20 years.

Nothing Serg - I've mentioned before I nearly went for a Brera S when I was looking for my LE but could not justify spending three times as much on one....... Yes noticed the weight magoo but I was suprised at that output from a 1.6......
Viewers are amazed my car is now 16 years old (p/plate fitted)

Why the gloomy predictions? There are still a fair few Fiat Dinos from the late 1960s/early 1970s out there and worth a lot of money. If people can keep these cars in good nick, when they came from a time when Fiat wasn't a byword for longevity, why shouldn't our Coupes, which are largely galvanized, survive if we look after them?

There's a reason why common cars like Novas have largely disappeared. However good or bad they are, they're not in any way desirable, or special. So when government offered £2k to scrap, loads of everyday, average, boring cars got scrapped.

Coupes are special and are worth keeping.
