While on the way to work this morning sat at the roundabout thud !!!!
A guy in a Ford Mondeo went straight into the back of me.
It all happened at low speed but cracked the rear bumper & bent my boot lid.
All going through the insurance, just waiting for the insurance company to come & have a look. Got pics & the guys details.

Just as i was working my way though a list of jobs that neeed doing on my coop !!! rolleyes
I think the day of me taking my coop off the road is getting closer & closer.

Exactly the sam thing happened to the week before Christmas 2010. In less than a month or two, the car will be resprayed, the damaged bodywork replaced at the same time. The woman that hit me (in a golf) wasn't insured and my premium went up because I declared the accident at the time as the child in her car was in tears - I figured there may have been an injury and so got on it pronto...

Finally, it'll be back as it was before soon after YEARS!! laugh

Having been rear-ended *twice* in my Coupe (many years ago), you may find now that the insurance company will want to write it off, they will probably call for a new boot floor panel and new rear panel even if the boot lid is OK, and none are available new AFAIK. Any good bodyshop will be able to fix it up by repairing the old panels, but if it goes through insurance it may end up as a Category D or C.

As has mine: though it took a bonnet, bumpers each end, boot, boot floor, and sundry paint to get it cat C'd.

The bend on the boot still hasn't been fixed; that should be resolved in this respray.

The damage isn't bad, the bumper is easily repairable and the boot is only bent in a little across the bottom of it with another small section pushed in just above it.
At the most a new boot lid, bit of filler & paint on the bumper.

Hope it gets sorted soon.

Been nearly 3 weeks since my wife was rear ended :-) in the MINI GP we own, was rush hour on the M25 on her way to the airport on a MINI press trip when slowing down to a 40 limit the van behind didnt even brake.....
Repair costs are just over 4k.
Glad it wasnt the coop as it would have prob written it off.......

Had the guy from the insurance company come to view the damage this morning.
First thing he said "i love these cars, the style and it will become a classic"
But he thinks the back end has been push in behind the bumper, i can't say you can notice it.
Then later on the insurance company rang asking a few questions & saying it could be written off although they haven't had the report yet.

So i might need a bit of advice on buying back from insurance etc

I have in the past negotiated a settlement figure with the insurance company for a car that they wanted to write-off.

It was made clear to them that I didn't want to buy the car back from them, but rather settle on an amount that I thought I could get the car fixed myself.

The advantage of this is that the car is not classed as an insurance write-off, and you have some funds to get it fixed using used parts etc.

We ended up with something similar to Aleem's solution last year with the wife's Land Rover.

I went to a bodyshop for an unseen cheap non-insurance quote that the offending coach company could pay without going through the insurance. (bumper, respray. etc. etc.)

Rather than paying the coach company submitted the quote to their insurers who pretty much bit our hand off to fix it for the low rate.
