Tis with much regret to announce that I sold my beloved LE Coupe today, to a new owner who I know will look after it. I don’t mean to be melodramatic, but after 5 years of faultless, problem-free ownership, parting with her was pretty heart-wrenching to say the least. cry

I bought her from Civic_Legend (Matt) off the Forum in March 2009. Matt had previously bought her from Roger (of PowerItalia fame) who has continued to service the car ever since. It’s been an absolute blast and privilege to own this car and glad that I was able to part with it in the same mint condition that I got it in 5 years ago.

Other than a £1.20 plastic bush for the gear stick and a £5 accelerator cable, the car never let me down as was utterly reliable. Saying that I’d only clocked 15k over the 5 years.

Unsurprisingly it got snapped up by word of mouth as soon as I mentioned that I was thinking of selling it. I didn’t even get to the stage of having to advertise it on the forum as the condition sold itself. Original spec, unmodified, it still idles hot at 3 bar. The saddest thing was that I genuinely didn't know quite how good the new LL exhaust sounded until the car drove away, having never heard it from a distance before for myself.

A massive thanks to Roger of Poweritalia.com for servicing the car. And also to Joe of Fiat Coupe Specialist Spares FCSS for providing some hard-to-source parts.

It was great meeting everyone at some of the shows that I managed to get to. Brooklands, Honnington, Wings&wheels and some of the other events are priceless memories. Especially for my son who at the 1st event and aged 9, loved every minute of being catapulted up the Brooklands test hill. Just a shame I never made it to Spa.

This has got to be the friendliest and most helpful forum. I’d like to thank everyone that's helped me over the last 5 years with advice and support.

So why after 5 years of bliss did I decide to part with it? Well I know that I’ll regret it and will almost certainly never get that much Car for the money again. However as everyone on here knows, italian car ownership isn’t about being rational. I’m probably heading for a fall, but I'm trading in for an older model. But sticking with Fiat. My big mistake at my 1st outing to Brooklands in 2009 was talking to someone with one of these babies:

I can’t explain it, but this car got under my skin. For the past 3 years I've been tempted to go for one, but up until this year have managed to reasoned it out not to be so silly. However this year reason lost out and has been put to one side. I’ve already put the deposit down on this one. A '76 Fiat 124. Into the breach and no going back now. Just need to find the rest of the money before I can pick it up in April.

One thing is absolutely certain though – there isn’t a fraction of the support for these that the FCCUK & forum offer. So if you’ll let me then it would be good to stick around. smile

Nice Spider, hopefully DTR will do you proud, and if your LE was anything to go by, it will be going to a good home. Having owned at least one Spider for the last 30 years I hope you enjoy it like I have... I can't seem to bear parting with my 1985.5 Spidereuropa even though it's been off the road for several years...

Thanks for all the comments - it's good to know I'm not going to be ostracised. I know the 124 is going to feel pedestrian in comparison to the coupe, but having lost my licence once before for speeding then maybe that's no bad thing in my case.

Joe - I've sent you a PM with me details.

DaveG - I'm impressed that you spotted it's DTR. I think I might well be calling on you for some advice if you don't mind.
