Mrs Ed and I went to see him in the Festival Fringe in August. A remarkable intellect and magnetic speaker even though at 88 some of his energy was diminishing.

It's a shame, for me, that a quote from Blair appears within the BBC website's report of his death.

He came from a time when ideology meant something more than just sound-bites. Like most people today, I couldn't agree with a lot of his political views (or at least their application in the real world!), but as Emjay says, his commitment and integrity were unparalleled.
It's unusual for a politician to be viewed as a National Treasure, but I think he was just about there.
